I am in desperate need of some advice. My AC in my 16 Z51 keeps going out. I took it to a mom/pop shop and they replaced everything except the blower motor. Paid $3400. Didn’t work. Took it to the dealership who said blower motor. Paid $600. Work for a couple months then start same problem.
The issue is it will intermittently not work. Not blow any air (warm or cold). You can hear something engage when you turn the switch in the motor department but absolutely nothing. Next time or a couple drives later…blows fine…no issues. Sometimes it won’t do anything while I’m driving then all the sudden it will start working out of the blue. I tried to take it in and my luck every time I do it’s working so they can’t diagnose the problem. Anyone have this issue and found the fix???
to me sounds more related to electrical, anyone trace grounds, test relays? switches/buttons, related sensors for a/c? battery and battery connections? any check engine lights or codes?
the fact that its intermittently to mean is more related to wiring but im no expert but sounds like that
man $3400 I would of said no thanks for that quote and got second or third opinions, but live and learn.
put a full list of exactly what was replaced, because u said the shop did "everything" except blower than dealer did that.
Sucks when you spend a great deal of money and still have the problem. Sorry.
I watched a Ford video on an AC problem that I wish was for Corvettes. Maybe you can apply so of the lessons learned.
A ODB2 analyzer might help to show the sensors used in disabling the AC.
Water Temp, Air Temp, Cooling Fan On,.....
Your problem is probably not mechanical but a sensor or loose wire.
It would help if someone sent you a wiring diagram for AC, cooling,...
You don't need a parts-changer, you need a troubleshooter.
Good luck.
Title: Some A/C Issues Require You to Think Outside the Box!
So the main issue is intermittent blower operation? There are a couple threads that indicate a dirty or corroded electrical connector at the blower motor could be your problem:

^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS^^^^^^^^^^^ the dealer should have replaced the pigtail also although I can't state if the pigtail connector was improved . You probably did not have to replace anything as I have luck with just spraying it with electrical cleaner and its good for a year now
Very easy to get to .... takes 5 minutes

You could have an issue with the control unit, the internal actuators that direct air inside the housing, or an issue with one of the 5 to 7 temperature sensors inside the housing. We have no idea what the mom-and-pop shop replaced as all you said is everything. Did they really replace everything? What about the actuators and sensors inside the heater? Did they recalibrate the actuators? The intermittent issues sound more like issues with actuators sticking and/or sensor issues. It sounds like you were the victim of a Ready, Fire, (Oops, I forgot to Aim) diagnostic and repair process.

Sadly it seems like the mom and pop shop as well as the dealer just threw things at the problem hoping it would solve the problem. Good luck getting things sorted out and your A/C working again.
Had similar issue, they replaced my A/C head unit. Worked better after that, but it still doesn't work as it should if I put it on auto. So I set the vent and fan speed manually now and it's more consistent this way.
ACs are actually relatively simple. Only 4 or 5 issues. Sorry but 3400$ is ridiculous. Leaks with moisture in the system causing intermittent freezers, relay switch issues, ac clutch problem etc. 3400$ OMG!
I had a similar problem with my 2014--sometimes it would work fine and other days it woud only blow warm air. Took it to a Chevy dealer to get fixed and they said it needed a new compressor. After it was replaced it still did the same thing. Took it to another dealer and after ripping everything apart, they discovered a wire that was being pinched. They told us it was like that from when they built it, and after the wear and tear from using it for 7 years(this happened in 2020), it would work sometimes and other times not at all. After replacing it, no troubles since! Good luck with your fix.
