Default A-8 Question

So I am finishing up the A-8 flush job. Pretty straightforward with a couple of store bought tools. I think I remember reading (somewhere) that I should have the trans software updated by the Dealer? A clutch alignment process? Any help from the Pro's would be appreciated! dr.k.

I am not sure what the Dealer did when they did the upgrade, except fluid replacement, I just know it worked great after they did it!

are you doing a “triple flush” or a regular one? Was there shuddering before ?

I used a cheap pump off Ebay to suck out the fluid from the passenger side plug. And pumped in new fluid.
I drove about 400 miles and did it a second time. I never had the shudder before or after. Now around 19k miles.
I will probably do it again next year just for insurance sakes.
I know I wasn't able to get it all out, cooling lines and torque converter.

I did a flush / run enough times to go thru 24 Qts of Mobil 1 'Blue' label on my 17.

No update or relearn on trans software.

All good but I did the flush with less than 2k miles.

Yep, personally I'd leave the triple-flush to a trusted Chevy dealer considering the severity of the shudder issues and the vast success experienced by so many with dealers preforming the process. Plus, it's covered under warranty in most cases.

I used a Kent-Moore tool that bolts on in place of the trans cooler lines. This allows the removal of all of the internal oil.
I used a low pressure air hose to blow out the cooler and lines, almost 2qts.
I removed the pan and welded on a bung that allows me to drain the system without removing it.
I used the Chevy procedures as for as adding fluid, starting the engine to remove to old oil and then adding fresh ATF.
16qts flushed through the system. Then I dropped the pan for the last time and replaced the filter, adding around 8 - 10 qts. to get it full hot.
I was lucky, my car didn't ever shudder, but I was taking no chances. Being the 3rd. owner all of the fluids have been replaced.

Dr.K.1, well done. I wish you lived in driving distance!
Is this the adapters you used?

I had mine done at a Chevy dealer and they did not do a complete job as the TSB suggested. I still had a slight shutter and I removed the pan myself and the fluid was not completely changed nor was the pan cleaned. After I did the triple flush all is well. I suspect they only removed 5-6 quarts. How ever they did it, they did an incomplete job. Make sure they drop the pan 3 times as required by the TSB do the complete service.

The highlighted part of my above post regarding 'trusted' Chevy dealer was probably the most important part. The first sign that you need to go to another dealer is when you tell them you want a triple-flush and they look at you with the 'what are you talking about stare'.
Any quality and fairly busy Chevy service department have most likely done a couple hundred of these by now as it pertains to most all A8s, not just Corvettes.

Not only have they performed dozens of the flushes, they also can test drive the car and tell you if your car is exhibiting systems as they know the problem well (yes, one is entitled to the flush on only your complaint, but it is great to know for sure what is going on).

Not that set. This is a block that bolts to the drivers side of the trans taking the place of the cooling lines. The forward / output port has a hose on it to drain into a graduated bucket so you know how much fluid is being removed to shut the car off. Really, really tight spot to make this stuff work. I'm sure that is why Chevrolet changed the procedure to the pan draining. I just wanted all of the old oil out to I put up with the hassle. I will look for the thread where a purchased to tool if you want.

Dr K I am one that recommended a TCM flash for older 8 speed ( 2015 to early 2017 ) models as it changes the engagement of the lock up converter which was what causes the shudder . You can only do this by using a GM MDI device or equivalent as a pass thru device and a two day pass that you purchase from a web site of what use to be called GM TIS . You enter your serial number and it will show you all the modules in your car and if there are updates . Some dealers will tell you there are no TCM updates ... Just leave and find another dealer lol

Only do a transmission relearn procedure if you are experiencing sloppy shifts

Since you do not have either problem and you changed the fluid don't tempt fate .... if it ain't broke dont try and fix it as you could very easily brick your TCM if you dont know what you are doing

Dcasole, thanks for chiming in. I didn't want to deal with my clueless Dealer over this update. K
