Could the resolution of the C7 rear camera be better, probably, but I have no real issue with how well mine works. I get a clear picture that helps when I am backing up.
It's inability to balance brightness and contrast I find to be worse than the resolution or chromatic shifting. When backing up at night the license plate is so bright it blows out the camera and I can't hardly see anything.
It's horrible on my '17 GS backing out of the garage into shadows for a few feet then bright sunshine, the camera takes a while to adjust meanwhile I need to stop and wait for it.
My 19 sucks at night. I often leave for autocrosses at 6AM. This summer I started backing into the garage the day before because backing down our 50 yard drive was terrible.

Same here. The camera in my Mazda CX 9 looks like super HD by comparison. Is the camera the problem, the screen resolution or both?
The resolution on the cameras all around the car including the PDR are terrible. The camera itself might could produce a better image, tho the screen inside the car outputting the image isn't the best either. It is what it is, it does the job.
The resolution and contrast on all 3 cameras of our 2017 are much worse than our 2011 Toyota Camry and 2020 Honda CRV.
Better than nothing? Yes.
But worse than anything else I've happened to drive.

I am among the minority that wish I could have optioned my C7 to remove most of the infotainment. To me, it is stuff like this that "dates" the cars quicker. I do chuckle each time I'm in my 2019Z and the camera isn't half the quality of my 2011 Lincoln. Fortunately, I look to GM for performance engineering and mechanical, so I'm not bothered by it in the least.
But also, the nerd in me would upgrade the camera in a heartbeat if there were a solve for this

Yes! Same. I've just wanted screen mirroring of my phone with OBDI enhancements for the things I need that my phone doesn't provide. Than as I upgrade phones I'm all set.
My last sportscar and SUV I intentionally avoided ones with the tech upgrade. I can no longer avoid it sadly for the vehicles I want.

Car gets dated, replace with a newer model..
I wonder if it is the camera or the screen or software?
