So my wife surprised me with The Corvette Experience in Bowling Green at the corvette museum this weekend I get to take a c8 out on their track. Now my question is this, the weather looks terrible and I really want to drive my vette down. I have a 2015 z51 with original tires with 20000 miles on them. I have new set in my garage but don't have time to switch out. If I put it in wet mode will it be safe enough to drive in heavy rain. The only rain I'll have to deal with will be driving home on Saturday. I know people daily drive their car, but I've never driven mine in the rain. Its not the end of the world not driving it, but man I really want too.
Assuming you have decent tread....PTM Wet works wonders in wet conditions. Better than Weather mode. As for driving the C8 in wet conditions at BG, the experience will tune up your skills immensely. Its like tracking in slower motion. Allows you to focus on the balance of the car through the apex.
Drive and enjoy the ride- I am here in Florida- where it rains everyday in the summer as mentioned by mickeyone- the Wet mode really works- very surprised how this car drives in the rain compared to a '15 Mustang GT- I daily drove- with less power-
'17 Z51- this morning drive- after the rain....sunrise.
I had the same issue for a 6 hour drive to lake placid last year. First two hours of my ride was forcast to be absolute downpour and the rest of the weekend perfectly sunny
I really, really wanted to take it enjoy that ride in my Z with 335's in the rear.
It was outright downpour and the thing handled just fine. Obviously you can't do something stupid like punch it up to 140 on the highway, but if you use reasonable judgement it works fine.
Also, never used weather mode. I assumed it just controlled throttle a bit to not slip the wheels as easily.
Does it do something else?
Well, thanks for all the advice. Just txted my wife and said we are taking the vette. I'm not driving an Acura to a corvette experience when I have a corvette. What was I even thinking.
I drove my C7 Grand Sport all the way home from Road America in the worst rain I have ever driven in my entire life (about 40 miles). I was amazed how planted the car was in Weather mode. There was water build up all over the road, it handled perfectly even with those 335's on the rear. I was amazed. You'll be totally fine....but use Weather mode.
I'm sorry, but what is PTM Wet mean and how do I put it in that mode. Thanks for all the advice so far. Love this forum!!!
To enter PTM Modes, scroll to track then hit the button (on the round ****) twice. There are 5 PTM modes I believe.
Weather mode essentially just retards the throttle response.
Track/PTM Wet does not do that, but utilizes the eLSD, MSRC, AH, and TC all working in combination to allow you to get right to the edge of loss of grip/control before any intervention takes place. Those that havent tried this in wet conditions....give it a go.

lol, yeah you were about to lose your "Corvette Card"

This seems a bit "heavy-handed" for just cruising down the highway. If he was tracking the car during a rainstorm I can see it, but cruising with his wife in the car, does he need to be "on the edge of loss of control"?
I too attended the Spring Mountain driving school and learned about PTM modes - great fun on the track, but I would not use them on the highway.
Had C7 Z51 & 2 C7 Z06s. Number one thing is HYDROPLANING! You will feel the front end getting VERY light. Don’t worry about how fast others are going, move right or on a two lane slow down & let folks pass. Trying to make a curve & hitting standing water will put you in harm’s way quickly. These super wide front tires will hydroplane with brand new tires.👍
