So, in December of 2022, OnStar is going away on the 2G network. Does that mean that we lose ALL functionality of the 3 buttons on our mirrors AND must use the new OnStar phone app in lieu of the buttons?
If that be the case, I think a mirror swap out to remove the cute non-functional buttons on the mirror would be appropriate.
I checked with my GM Dealer... no upgrade for 2014 C7. Can't change phone/onstar module or computer and
no software update... 3 buttons on mirror will no longer work
I wonder if replacing the Telematics Communication Interface Control Module to a newer version would be a work-around? I'm still waiting to see if my WiFi functions at the beginning of the year. I'm hoping I don't lose it on my '15 since I have the updated modules for my infotainment system(Carplay).
In September 2021, GM notified owners of certain pre-2015 model-year vehicles in the United States that their factory-installed OnStar equipment will become obsolete and non-functional after December 2022. These vehicles use Verizon Wireless's 2G/3G CDMA network for communication, and Verizon has announced plans to sunset this network.[21] Unlike GM's remedy under similar circumstances for Canadian customers, where the vehicle hardware was updated,[22] customers in the United States will be provided an OnStar Link plug-in at no additional charge.[23

The OBD II adapter mentioned in the "Discontinuation of CDMA Service, " Affected customers with pre-2015 model year certain vehicles will be able to obtain an OBD II adapter that will provide 4G LTE cellular service for select OnStar services that are accessible via the OnStar mobile application (such as unlocking and locking the vehicle's doors, and locating the vehicle via Global Positioning System)" apparently never materialized. That would have been a welcome solution to retain the remote functions.
The OnStar App on my iPhone is apparently capable off allowing my wife and her 2000 Toyota Celica GTS the functionality of "Roadside, Call OnStar. and Call SOS" through the OnStar APP on her iPhone. She is using my OnStar account for those functions. The OnStar APP does GPS to the exact car location (her phone) so she can obtain assistance in my car or hers.
Still might get rid of the useless mirror. $214 for the non-OnStar button mirror.
2G and 3G are both being sunsetted. Cars with the ability to get online updates will be fine. I don't know what year Corvettes got that capability but my 2017 GS does.
If you're a current OnStar® Member, your vehicle will receive an automatic over-the-air software update, so there's nothing to worry about. If you're not an active OnStar Member, all you need to do is push the blue OnStar button to get started.

Since you have a 2015, I believe you're okay. The information I received again the other day says: "Thomas, by December 2022, cellular network providers will sunset their 2G networks to make way for faster 5G service. This means your 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will lose its 2G-reliant in-vehicle OnStar® connection, so the OnStar buttons in your vehicle and remote commands through the myChevrolet mobile app will no longer work. However, your 4G-reliant (select 2015 model year and newer) GM vehicle will not be impacted by the sunset, and it will maintain its in-vehicle OnStar services."
I'm not sure what they're meaning when they say "select 2015 model year." Could be early 2015 production year cars got the old system?? As noted in a post above, there is a "enter your VIN to see if you are affected" way of checking.
I was also thinking that maybe you update the OnStar module that is down there with the Radio Tuner and the other module down there in the passenger floor area (I updated my infotainment system also to get Apple CarPlay), but I don't know how they would allow it to accept a new OnStar module since everything is tied to a VIN it seems and it would reject it the minute it sees a 2014 VIN. Oh well, looks like I'll be saving some $$ in December!

My 2016 is 4g. It has the wifi hotspot and the MyChevy app that I can remote start/lock/unlock/alarm/alerts/track GPS for my C7. I think the 2016 and up is on the 4G network where 2015 and below was the 2/3G networks that carriers are sunsetting.

All 2015 C7s are upgradable as the hardware was changed at the beginning of the model year. However, vehicles like my 2015 GMC Terrain are based on an architecture that started being built in 2011 and ended in 2017 so there is a question about the system in my car. I know I can't upgrade the Terrain's NAV system since the last upgrade was made available in 2018 the year the new model was introduced. I have been able to upgrade the 2015 C7s NAV system right up to this year.
When I type the Terrain's VIN into the OnStar Check your car link there is a lot of time spent circling around but then I get an error message indicating I should try later. I have been trying for a couple of months. The system in the Vette was upgraded earlier this year when I renewed OnStar into next year.
Where is the hardware? I upgraded my radio unit to a 2017 radio (HMI and radio unit under passenger floor board). I wonder if I upgraded the OnStar with the radio unit?
