I need lug nuts for my GS. The OEM lug nuts can't take the abuse of an impact gun. The caps are already dented, coming loose.
Who makes a good 1 piece lug nut ?
Then buy a set of McGard lugs to replace the OEM lugs.
Do those sockets have a non-marring surface on the inside?
Otherwise, I think they'd only protect the wheel where it's near the nut, not the nut itself.
Also, if you use a clean/smooth socket that fits the nut tightly, wouldn't that be just as good?
The Corvette tech at our dealership says the problem comes from sockets that are a bit loose, so the force gets applied to mostly the angled edges of the socket and distorts them.
I switched out the nuts on our C6 at about 50k miles because they were getting a bit distorted, but that's just me swapping wheels around using cheapo sockets.
I use the plastic lined sockets. The correct method to removing the lug nuts is to keep the socket tight to the base of the lug nut so the socket won't impact the nut in the tapered area causing a loose fit and higher than normal force on the nut sides.

Looking for an education here...
From the item description, the lugs and wheels are both protected:
360° Non-scratch Nylon sleeve and insert protect bolt tops, wheel rims, and lug nuts from scratches during use
I've not used these myself, but they look to be a good option to consider for the OP.

Could not see an internal plastic sleeve. The pictures do not give a very good view inside, but the end which is visible do not have any protection. Perhaps someone who has purchased these can comment, but my opinion is they are metal on the inside. I have a 19mm and 22mm that look like these with the name Titan on the band. They are plastic on the outside to protect the wheel, but no protection inside.
Most auto manufacturers use a lug nut with a chrome cover over it which is what usually twists and dents. Upgrade to a set of McGard Tough Nuts. They're a solid, triple chromed, lug nut with a lifetime guarantee.
I recall seeing a thread here years ago, where someone posted that one of the popular brands of aftermarket nuts has a cone angle, or whatever you call it, that's different from the stock nuts and the angle in the stock wheels where the nut seats.
