Default Memory seat logic

My memory seats work most of the time but every once in a while they don’t retract and the steering wheel doesn’t retract. Does the ebrake need to be on when car is shut off or any other logic. When it doesn’t work I can’t figure if I’ve done something wrong.

No, unless your better half is riding with you and is carrying her own Fob. Her Fob will mess things up for you.

For memory to work:
- Manual transmission has to be in Reverse
- Seat Back must be fully back and locked
- Seat must not be back agains the rear bulkhead. When setting up the full back position move the seat slightly forward from the rear-most position.

Yes I believe the e-brake needs to be on. On the most recent thread, this was the issue. Unfortunately the 2019 manual doesn't seem to state this. If the e-brake is on when it doesn't work, I'd make sure your seat position for driving isn't programmed right on the edge of the rear position limit. If so it might not work intermittently. Just a theory. You want to move it a 1/4" to 1/2" off the rear limit for before programming your positions.

You don't want your spare fob in range of your car. That can cause weird issues too.

I have a 2019 M7 and experienced that. 1)it does not have to be in reverse, just in gear. I always exit my car in 1st gear. 2)the parking brake has to be engaged. 3)the seat can't be all the way back when the memory is set. Take it all the way back, then bring it forward just a scooch then set it. Won't have an issue again.

Mine works the same as Raidercop explains.

My garage is configured in a way that the C7 is always backed in. This provides more room for driver exit. Upon exit when the driver's door opens the seat and the steering wheel always retract to a predetermined position. It does not matter whether the parking brake is engaged or not. It does not matter whether the transmission is in any gear or in neutral.

It appears to me that the memory seat logic is looking at the entry/exit door functions. My experience is only with the 2014. Programming in later years may have changed.

with my 2016 A8, whether I set the e-brake, or not, I shut the engine off and open the door and everything retracts to my exit settings.
On another note, with the car running and open the door to get out, need to press and hold the exit button for everything to retract.

Mine does wonky things every now and I can't put my finger on it. But I can't rule myself out of the equation either. I'm sure the car's programming is smarter than me.

e Brake needs to be on. At least on my car it does.
