I purchased my Range device in March 2020. It works great but want to make forum members aware of a recent experience. I often unplug it if the car is going to sit for longer than a week. Recently, I left the device plugged into my OBD2 port for many weeks, because I was driving the car once or twice a week. This morning I got on the Interstate and while driving it felt like the car was going into V4 mode, and I observed on my instrument panel V4 mode at times. I pulled into the next rest stop, shut the car down, and pulled the Range device from the OBD2 port. Ten minutes later, I plugged in the Range device, got on the road, and all is well. The Range device now works as expected. This is just an FYI in case you experience the same problem.
Are you sure that you did not knock it loose with your foot or leg. I knocked mine loose once but I felt it move and reseated it in the port. I have had the Range Device plugged into my 19 GS since it was new 4 years and 25,000 miles ago and not one glitch. The only time I remove it is for warranty work so the test parameters will reset.

When I pulled into the rest stop, I visually inspected the device in-place and attempted to push it into the OBD-II port. It did not budge. But you make a good point. I could have been fooled. If it reoccurs, I shall pay close attention to the state of the LEDs before attempting to correct the problem.
I agree as others have reported here of knocking is loose slightly with their leg. Seems that would be fairy difficult to do but evidently it happens.
There's no need to ever disconnect your range if you have the current version except when you take it in for service. I had mind connected for 4.5 years.

I have the Range AFM Eliminator on my car and it has been plugged in for about 3.5 years now. No problems so far with it, but thanks for sharing your experience.
I have one installed in my ‘15 (with the latest firmware) and it occasionally fails for no apparent reason. The connection is solid and doesn’t get bumped. I have even added dielectric grease to the port for good measure. A couple years ago, Range did a re-flash and test for me out of warranty but it will still fail intermittently.
My '14 experienced the same anomaly. I don't remove it until prior to the time for the emissions test. It simply misbehaved on its' own. Was not loose. I emailed Holley and they said return it for a free firmware flash since it was 2 years since the purchase and the software was an older version. Upon return the stated cause\solution was corrupt software \ reflash device.
Generally they are very reliable. BUT, I did have two fail on my. The first one freaked out the ECM and I got all sorts of error codes and the car went into limp mode. Once unplugged, cleared the error codes and all was fine. When I sent it back to Range they confirmed some component failed and sent me a new one.
Well the new didn't work as well! When plugged in, the car would not start. So they sent me a third one and that was fine. I think this was a rare event and string of bad luck. Never had an issue since. My 2019 Grand Sport actually came with one that the previous owner installed. It stays plugged in all the time.
I have had two c7 a 2016 z51 and now a 2017 gs
i am a big fan of the range device. I do not like buying a high performance sports car that switches to 4 cyl to save gas.
I also do not like all the crap GM puts in which adds to the mech and elect complexities
but enough said about that.
I just disconnected the range device and drove about 25 miles. Damn it is crappy
it drives so much better with it installed…
Have only had my C7 for a few days. How do I know when & if it goes into V4 mode?
The DIC has to be set for the Range of the gas in your tank and the Instant Gas mileage. In the bottom part of the gauge, above the Instant Mileage, it will show V8 or turn green and show V4. With my Stingray, there is no other way I can tell, since it shifts back and forth seamlessly.
