Looking to replace the front tires with Michelin Pilot A/S 4's on my 2019 Stingray. The weather is cooler now here in Texas and the skipping of the Super Sport tires is more annoying.
Discount Tire has two different OEM designations for this tire with different prices. Anyone know the difference? I'm not seeing a difference in the specs.
Even so, there's little to no functional difference between the two tires.
As an aside, the wording of your post implies you're going to put AS4s up front and keep PSSs in the rear? Don't mix tires. Put AS4s all around, or PSSs all around.
I put new tires on my C7 last month and am almost sick from reading the above posts about not mixing tires.
I wanted Sport 4S all around but the guy at Americas Tire said they were not available in the size for the rear. I wound up putting 4S on the front and Super Sport on the rear.
Can someone please tell me what kind of problems this might cause?
Thanks.
Each tire model has slightly different handling characteristics. In normal driving you probably will never notice a difference. If you get into a surprise situation where you are actually using close to all of the tires capability, you could have a noticeable difference in traction at one end or the other. OTOH, whatever the situation is will have a huge effect on how the car handles. Road conditions will have an effect. I won't say that mixing tire models is the best way to go, but I will say I don't think it is the absolute killer that you will sometimes hear people say.
I agree with the above in that you may never notice the difference depending the type of driving you do, however you could find yourself in satiation out of your control where it could make a difference.
Thanks for the replies.
A local corvette club hosts autocross events, which they say is a good place to feel what it's like to take the car to its traction limits. I'm planning on doing one for my own peace of mind (not to mention for the fun!). Will be interesting to see which end breaks loose first! They won't happen until next year, I'll try and remember to come back and give a report.
