Default Battery Vent Plug??

After much swearing etc. I was able to replace the battery in GF's C7, dealer supplied AC Delco 42 Gold OEM under warranty, no charge. So the vent tube (which was never hooked up the last time at the dealer) is fine BUT there is/was no PLUG for the the vent hole on the other side of the battery and of course no plug in the new one. Everything I read says it should have the vent tube hooked up and plug put in the other side, soooo no success googling vent plug etc.etc. Ideas for how to plug the vent hole? Thanks, Dave

If the battery is "Sealed", doesn't that eliminate the need for a vent?

It's sealed as in "you don't open it up to put water in it" -- it still vents.

Dave, if your new battery had a red plastic lid over the positive battery terminal, there was a section in that lid that should have been torn out and used as a vent plug.

If it was one of the molded cylindrical post covers that you remove like a bottle cap (or just pull upwards), sometimes those don't have the tear-off plug bit and there's a little accessory bag taped to top or side of the battery that contains the plug you need.

If you cannot find the plug that came with the new battery, you'll want to get a little cone-shaped piece of rubber to stuff in there. Alternately you can ask your dealership for a new one, chances are the guys in the parts department or tech bays have dozens of them just floating around in drawers. Failing that, you can get a teed vent kit online or at your parts store that will hook up to both vent ports.

I had that problem when I purchased the 42 month AC Delco Battery at the dealership. The vent elbows, for some reason, comes in a separate box that is for the vent elbows. I called the Dealer's parts department and they let me in on this fact. I went back, in another car, got it, and put it in.

I always let people know that if I find out they are going to the Dealer for a battery.

Yeaaaaaaaaa!! Thanks! Found it, yup one of the " 4 legs" on that red cap, as YOU said, is the "plug", cut it off and put it in the hole! Duh, even tiny instruction paper I looked at finally on that red cover that mentions that! Oh well, old and still don't want to read instructions! LOL!! Great help, great forum!! Dave

yeah when i went to check my battery for the first time i noticed the vent tube wasnt connected nor the other battery side had a plug. so i just bought the GM Genuine Parts 25894253 Battery Vent Tube to resolve my issues used the elbow on the new one and placed a vac cap to create a plug then ensured the vent tube was connected properly and securely. i asked when i got my battery tested at 2 stores about battery vent plugs and they didnt really say anything so i just did it my way.
kinda crappy oversights from the person(s) that messed with battery area from the previous owner(s) and didnt properly do those things, but its good now.

Great info and good to know about the vent plug being in the red plastic lid over the positive terminal.

An addendum to all this. I watched a bunch of videos and some of the forum's members pictures for step by step on how to do this, most all were great and very helpful to me. But I gotta tell ya, I have changed out a lot of batteries over the years, boats included and this by far was the most exasperating one I have ever done. Wiring and all that is very straight forward but the "in and out" with the battery is ridiculous! One more inch all the way round by the engineers would have made all the difference. I don't have BIG hands and I could not get my hand between the battery and the rear end side of the cavity in the floor! It also has to "tilt" longwise as it goes in or out and if there are no handles on the battery (one did, new one did not?) it just awful!. Hindsight is 20/20 so the only aftermarket handle that may work is the old type strap that drops over the two terminals, BUT these terminals are smaller in diameter that batteries of yesteryear, so you don't want a strap that would come off! A wide type battery lifter won't work because of the shape of the trunk around the "cavity". I wound up using a marine battery box nylon strap tie down, so I could lift the battery with one hand and tilt it with the other, then pulled the strap out. Just be prepared, some of the videos made it look so easy so maybe what year C7 matters as shapes may of changed? Dunno, but I don't want to do another! LOL!!! Save the Wave, Dave
