My 2014 stingray with 18k miles making a clicking noise when coasting foot off pedal and then go to lightly excelerate. It痴 gone in a second . Sounds like lifter tapping or fan hitting something? Any ideas?
If you can try to isolate the sound it could be either your differential or one of the driveshaft couplers in the torque tube. Both of those items can make a sudden clunk noise on acceleration or deceleration. Although less likely, there could be a bad bushing in one of the rear knuckles that will cause that noise. I had that happen on my 2015 2SS RS Camaro at 30,000 miles.
Is this an automatic base Stingray? Could be AFM valves. If an automatic, try using Manual mode and paddle shift. Noise gone? AFM valves most likely...
It is an automatic . I haven稚 tried using paddle shifters. It is not a clunk sound but higher pitched like lifter tapping really quick and fast. It痴 does it almost every time more so going lower speeds like 35-55 . I let off acceleration and cost then when I give it acceleration you hear just for a split second then gone
These cars need 91 at minimum in states that don’t have 93. Otherwise 93 is preferred. That said, sometimes you get **** gas from a gas station. Gently run out this tank and get high quality fuel from a top tier
I have only put 93 in it but still could be bad gas.. I just put a bottle of Lucas fuel injection cleaner in as well..do you think it could be belt tensioner?
Belt tensioner is a bit more consistent than what you describe. I can’t say for sure without hearing it, but sounds like more of a ping issue from bad gas
That precisely describes the noise my 2014 A6 made when the belt tensioner was bad and the engine made the transition between V4 and V8. First step is to check the top of the tensioner for oil residue. If it is wet, then change it. If not, set your DIC to show the V8/V4 status and see if the noise corresponds with the change. If so, replace the tensioner anyway. You can also put the trans in manual and use the paddles to shift as stated before and see if the noise quits. If it does, then you probably should change the tensioner. It is under a hundred bucks if you do it yourself.
I installed a Range AFM disabler in mine right after replacing the tensioner and have had no problems since.
We can find you the previous discussion on here about the clacking noise if you need. There are even a couple TSBs from GM about the tensioner.
