I’ve done it on other cars with no MIL illuminated…and even if it does and you put the cap back on the ECM will turn off the MIL usually after a few drive cycles…if it stays on after a few drive cycles I’d put a scan tool on it…you’d probably see an “EVAP large leak” DTC.
It is possible leaving the engine running while you pump gas would trigger a check engine light. The EVAP system will be running and could be triggered by the open gas cap.

Not likely. The EVAP test only runs under certain conditions. If you have a low tank (1/4 tank) or over 3/4 full for example, the test will not initiate. Shady people selling cars with a small EVAP leaks often fill the car, reset the codes, then drive a bit and repeat the process if necessary until the ECU is initialized. This way if a potential buyer plugs a code reader into the OBDII port, they will not see that the ECM has just been reset and there will be no EVAP code. The new owner will find that the code will surface after driving the car for awhile...
The sensors are sensitive on Corvettes, You can get check engine light and it means nothing. It will go out after a few miles. You can get codes just changing spark plugs??
I try and find a shop or dealer that I can trust. There are Chevy Dealers that do lots of Vettes and have special techs. But the normal chevy/gm dealers are less than good. This goes for ford dealers and Mustangs. You have to shop around
