Try and do a search there should be some previous threads on this issue. Mine is usually really warm, but doesn’t get extremely hot. It may have something to do with how charged your battery is. Someone will chime in with some more in put.
I just checked mine that has been on the charger for days. It is cool\cold.
I do remember that once I used it to charge a dead battery and it did get hot.
Check your after a day, after the green light is ON.

Wow I’ve had my plugged in for 4 years whenever I’m not driving it and it’s never ever been cold. Warm is as coolest as mine as ever gotten.
Generally speaking, chargers are not 100% efficient... The loss (or inefficiency) is typically given off as heat, and if the charger isn't actively charging the battery, it's reasonable that it would be cool!
These are "maintainers," not chargers. They will get hot if used on a very depleted battery; they are not intended for such use. If used as designed... to maintain a good, though charged battery, their sensation to the touch will vary from pretty warm (whatever that means--purely subjective) to cool.
I have used the same type CTEK from GM on both my 13 GS and then on my 19 GS. Neither of them got to what I would consider hot. It is mounted on a concrete wall which would absorb most of the heat if it should ever get hot.
Trying to decide whether to leave the charger plugged into the lighter socket in trunk all the time as I only drive the car in summer and not much than either, or put one of the disconnect green twist top units on it and not have to worry about battery drain. Don't really care about the loss of preset radio stations. Any other things I should know?
I use an Optimate 4 on my 2015 Stingray. It's been plugged in for about 1 1/2 days now. It is in the "voltage retention test" mode now and it is cool to the touch.
