I have been sick for a week and forgot to put my Vette on the maintainer. Tried to start it today and what do you know, it's dead. Question--will the c-7 maintainer bring it back??? Really don't want to go for a new battery now. Advise----
A battery maintainer is just that, not designed to completely charge a dead battery. That's what battery chargers are for. It may charge it enough, but then may burn up your maintainer.
Personally I'd buy or borrow a battery charger and put a good charge on it.
Thanks, that is what I thought. Just hoping for different answer.. Im using the c tek that came with the Vette. ps I just gave away a charger, figuring I wouldn't need it... Go figure. Could be time for a new battery anyway. Oh well!
Merry Christmas to all!
Just because the battery didn't start the car doesn't mean it is totally dead. The C-TEK maintainer can recharge your battery if you wait long enough. It all depends on how discharged the battery is when you start. Even when recharging a battery with a battery charger you want to start at a low-level charge current to limit damage to the battery. If I have a totally dead battery I let my 20-year-old Schumacher charge at 2 amps for a couple of hours and then switch it over to 10 amps and let it charge overnight.

Thanks Bill, I think I'll leave the c tek on it for now and see what happens.
I recommend one of these Delco batteries. You will typically get 6-7+ years out of them and your dealer or Delco distributor should have one of the other. As stated above about $250.
Just bought a 42 month 48GHR from the dealer to install myself for $217...
If the car has its OEM battery, after seven model years you've had a good run but are playing battery roulette with it... Average battery life is between 3 and 5 years, depending on the climate. While they do well in cold weather, hot climates are death on car batteries.

If you do not want to spend that much on a battery, the AC Delco 42 month battery, which I put in my 2014, is approximately $170 installed and that was at a Chevy dealer.
for 1 week of not tendering from it being full id say that its gone or almost there. now if u forgot to do it for a month or so and it barely cranked it may come back, certainly try to tender it back up.
is it possible you left something on to drain it down? not sure if the lights or anything inside can remain on or it self turns off stuff...
yeah id go for just the standard delco replacement and be done with it. replacing it isnt that bad, just heavy and awkward.
good luck.

I expect most people do as battery commercials seem to always show a parked car during a blizzard with a foot of ice and snow on it as it has more visual impact in driving their message home than showing a car parked in 110* weather.
Keep in mind too, that the above chart is taking in consideration all different grades of batteries installed in different types of vehicles in their statement that average battery life is 3-5 years. A Delco 48GHR installed in a C7 Corvette average life will be quite a bit more than that. So you don't need to replace your C7 battery just because it 3 years old. Unless possibly if you live somewhere like Yuma AZ.

I have used my Corvette maintainer for charging dead battery.
It take 2 days. The charger gets warm/hot.
It has protection electronics.
If you are not going to drive for the winter, wait to buy a battery.

Reason: spelling
I have a battery Tender Jr. Although it is not a "battery charger", it will, depending on the quality of the battery, eventually charge it, but that is not its purpose, and it can take a long time. I brought home a new Polaris Northstar. I put my BT Jr on it at around 9:00 in the morning, checked it that evening before I went to bed, and it was still on the red light. When I checked it the next morning, the little light was finally green, and has been fine since. As others have said, get a real battery charger and fully charge it, then use the maintainer to keep it charged,.
I've had the c tek that came with the Vette on it for about 20 hours and nothing so far. Going into winter storage and I really don't want to buy a new battery now. I will leave the c tek installed for now and see what happens. Thank you all with your help on this issue. Have a Merry Christmas!
