so i have a new to me 19 GS that seems to be blowing oil out of the exhaust, the car has long tube headers with no cats... i am going to put the car back to OEM as soon as possible but in the mean time i am a little concerned about the fine sheen of what i think is oil on the rear of the car...any ideas
Might just be black exhaust soot mixed with water which is normal whether stock or long-tube equipped. Also, because these cars have a squareish shaped rear, all road dirt including dust particles shed from your own tires and brakes get swirl-sucked (I sure that's the correct aerodynamic term) and stuck onto rear of the car bodywork.
It is due to the direct injection fuel system and the lack of a "catch-can" system for the crank case. They all have soot dripping on the outboard pipes if you jump on it. Just like having to wipe a baby's bottom. It's fact of life, but never ending. It just won't grow out of it! Just keep a rag handy and wipe it's butt once in awhile! The exhaust tips always look better when clean.
