I see from recent comments that some of you use Google maps (on the Infotainment screen, I'm assuming). How is that done? We have a 2015 with no Apple Car Play, in case that's needed.
Larry; You need to have the "Projection" icon on your infotainment system to get Apple CarPlay or AndroidAuto in order to display Google Maps. 2016 was the first model year to get this capability. There is also a company called NavTool that has a method to get similar results.
There are many posts in this forum addressing this subject on what 2014 and 2015 C7 owners have done to get this.
I did the upgrade to my 2014, but it isn't cheap and work intensive. If you're interested, here's a link to my post and experience from a long time ago:
Here is a video of my previous Navtool camera and it had modes of view. My camera died 5 or 6 months ago and I replaced it with a camera with one mode of view. IT works the same as far as on/off, but I can't switch video modes as before. Naytool has worked flawlessly since the installation was up and running.
I'm a huge Waze fan as it can alert you to many things ahead. One of the features I appreciate for my Vette and my other cars is the "object on roadway ahead" alerts. Lots of times that can be anything from a piece of rope to a ladder to a carcass from a blown tire. When I get those alerts, I back way off the car in front of me and never change lanes until I get past whatever was on the road. That alone has saved me damage or having to make evasive maneuvers many many times.
In my 19 I use my phone and a cord to put the nav on the screen. But I only do it on longer trips. A 30 min trip usually isn't worth the trouble. It is not that huge a deal but the controls on the car screen are just a bit different than on the phone itself, so sometimes I think I will put up w/ the smaller display and just use the phone on it's own. I mention all this just to say, if my car couldn't connect to the phone, I'd just get a $30 mount and forget the car's larger screen.
