I posted this to my local Facebook Corvette Club and guys lost their minds. It was funny to see
their reactions.
This is the only “Wheel Safe” car wash in my area. It uses a conveyor belt rather than a traditional rail and shuttle that can damage wide wheels. It’s perfect for a quick wash in between detailing.
I meant to include a disclaimer that my car is covered in XPEL Ultimate Paint Protection Film. Probably the best thing I’ve done to my car the entire time I’ve owned it.
Nope, not for me. To each his own but if I use a car wash it's completely touchless.
Touchless can be as damaging as brushes considering the high water pressure and harsh chemicals they use to compensate for no touch. And they use recycled water, so depending on how often they clean/replace the filters they can be like sandblasting your car's finish.
I haven't washed mine since May 2022. I make sure to set it outside when it rains to get the ultimate natural organic car wash. Well, I did remove the wheels once to surgically remove the break dust that accumulated on the inside of the wheel from the previous owner, but that's it. I keep the interior immaculate though. Before some of you freak out, it's been raining every two weeks it seems and with the dust in the air, it just gets dirty again. It's also my daily driver, so it doesn't sit in a garage being unused. I will wash it with all the care in the world as soon as I can enjoy the results.
Look it is your car. If you want to use the commercial car wash with the stripes of some type of material or even the brushes, that is your decision. You need to remember, that first the water they use is recycled over and over and you have no idea what may be imbedded in the brushes that beat the sides, hood top and deck. I can almost be certain if you use the auto car wash, you will have small scratches and swirls over time, and it won't take much time. Again, that is fine if you don't mind those little imperfections. Of course, if you are not concerned and you wash your own car you could be doing just as much damage to the painted surface as the automatic car washes do. Finally, for those that say they have the protective film on the car, or they have the super ceramic coating, surprise they can be damaged by the rotating brushes and also the high-pressure water. But like I said, your car do what you want and don't worry what others say.
