Default Tow hook thread sizes

Bought a tow hook off eBay. Received it - From Lithuania.
Won’t thread in front or rear. Contacted the seller, he replied to me right away. Gave me the following size for the threads on his tow hook as 20mm diameter and. threads at 2.5mm.
He suggested I try some lube such as WD-40 and try again. I do so multiple times and it’ll go in about 3 turns and start to go crooked. Don’t wanna try anymore and screw up the car’s threads any worse than I have.
As best I can tell, the size he gave match the tow hook he sent and the threads on the car are 2.5mm.
Anyone know for sure the thread diameter and pitch in the car?
Thanks in advance.

M20, 2.5 is the correct thread size. You are right to carefully avoid cross threading the hardened steel tow hook into the aluminum receiver.
The tow hooks have to be lined up exactly in order to start the threads and requires patience to get it right. They don't stick out strait but are skewed slightly toward the center of the car as I recall. I even went on amazon and got a tap and die to chase the threads and still took me 20 minutes before I got them to screw in.
I found it easier the first time to remove the hook off mine as the weight of it was pulling the shaft down out of proper alignment as i tried screwing it in.
Might try to blow out any debris from the receiver. It will work just be patient.

Thanks for confirming the size and threats.
