Are you referring to this piece? If so, it's just an air dam / air deflector that routes air to improve aerodynamics. Some remove it or don't replace it if it gets knocked off. Even though there's probably very little benefit from it except at very high speeds, I'm under the opinion that if GM put it there then leave it.

Sometimes when driving over an uneven surface like some driveways or speed bumps, etc, this little dam will scrape which serves as a good warning to slow down before you do any real damage to the underside of your Vette. Not exactly what it was designed to do but serves as a good warning.

You always want to leave it there, but sometimes the concrete jungle has other ideas.

GM places them there for a reason, and it isn't that GM was just looking for a reason to clear them out of the warehouse.

Kevin has nailed it - those pieces help with aerodynamics.

Man it really does but I ain't no mechanic I did see that the part for the Z06 is 77 bucks but it comes with both what looks like my flaps and a long piece if you have time look at this part number 84319733. Thanks so much. Why do my simple ideas always turn into a complicated mess?

if you have a Z51 they did not come with the center section, if I am not mistaken. part number 84319733 is for all 3 of the deflectors. I did a search of z51 deflectors and it appears that gm only sells the numbers I have listed above.

The site that shows 3 pieces is PARTS EXPERTS Malouf Chevrolet Cadillac all 3 for 77.40 the small pieces LOOK like the correct size and says without carbon Z06 then it says replaces 23280394 I don't know I guess I could order them and send them back if they were wrong. Still don't understand why a Z51 would have Z06 parts on it and if so why doesn't it have the 3rd piece
