Default C7Z Purchase Conflicted

I sold my c6 in 2021 and the itch to upgrade to a c7z has been strong ever since, actually me selling was part of the plan to get into one. I’ve looked at them for the last 6 months and finally decided to go test drive one. 2015, z07, 2lz, lt headers, 40k miles torch red. I left much more conflicted than when I arrived. The car is an amazing machine. Absolutely raw and more than enough power. The entire time I just felt “this is ridiculous”. I’m worried the Z may be too much race car. I’m also worried about going to a base and having Z envy like I had first go around.

Anyone else push through the “should I be buying this” feeling and have no regrets?

I went from a C6 to a C7Z for a different reason. The cancer bug bit me 3 years ago and I didn't know what my future was going to be so I pulled the trigger and bought the C7Z. I do love the Z and enjoy it every time I look at it, and drive it. It's an amazing machine that's more powerful than one can imagine. If you want the Z, go ahead and buy it and enjoy it. You don't have to use the power of the Z but when you want to it's there for you.

Get the Z06, better to have it & not need it than to need it & not have it

The nice thing about a Z06 is it can be both a beast and a very civil everyday driver - just depends on your control of the gas pedal. If you have concerns that you would miss the available power of the Z06 if you pass on the car, perhaps it is a sign that you really would be happier with it rather than a base car.

I went from a 2015 Stingray to a new 2019 C7Z. The power is just unbelievable especially with the 650lbs of torgue. have no regrets at all as a matter of fact every time I ride in a friends Stingray and recently a C8 it just makes me happy that I own a Z. Get it or else you will be thinking I should have..............

Go with what you started with and what you've aspired to have. You're an adult. You've come a long way in life. Self-control should now be a easy trait for you to exercise. Enjoy!

If your regrets were buying too much car, that is easily rectified. The Z06 is ridiculous, that’s the point. If you have an itch now, you will have envy if you don’t later. If you can find it and afford it, why not. At the very least, you can get on CF forum and lecture us all about how a Z is really the only Corvette to have, 650hp, torque, blah, blah, blah. That is worth something!

Yes! But my thouhts are "Is this out of my means". That would be because of the eventual cost of tires and possibly wheels. Plus, the risk of other drivers on the road that I have to constantly try to avoid. These cars are gems and it's the task of keeping it that way that makes me sometimes question my comfort. But that's not what these cars are about. They should be enjoyed as much as possible!

I never think it's "too much car" as I also have a highly modified C5. The Z feels similar in power and I LOVE IIT. I would like a lot more power if not for the missing protection of the convertible top.
I traded a 2019 Z51 Stingray for my 2019 Z06 convertible and immdediately named 30 imporovements over the Staingray in looks, performance and fun factor.

Bottom line: Get the Z06. You only live once.

I was in a similar boat in 2021. However, I test drove the C7s before I sold my C6. To me, the Grand Sport felt too much like my C6 in terms of power & general feel. The biggest differences were the interior & the effortless handling. After I test drove the Z06, I knew that I had to have one.

Sure, the Z06 has more power than you could ever use on the street. And, yes, it'll scare you if you're not careful. But that's what I love about it. The Z06 will give you an adrenaline rush that the Stingray & GS simply can't. Just buy one. You know that you'll regret it if you don't.

the first time i drove my c7z i thought.......this car is dumb. there's just no point to it. i'm doing 2x the speed limit before i merge with freeway traffic. it spins the tires from a stoplight effortlessly. the car serves absolutely no purpose and is absurd. and i fell in love with it

Thanks for the replies. This car is not stretching me financially or anything to that extent. I think I’m just dealing with a classic case of cold feet. I should probably just sack up and enjoy myself. You’re only 33 once right!?

This.. Get the Z06... You will get used to it. My 14 Z51 has a Supercharger and it was scary at 1st, but I'm used to it now. Your just not going to be putting your foot down except for maybe on and off ramps..Its just too fast for the street. Get it, if you don't like it for some reason, sell it and get a Stingray or Grand Sport, at least you got the Z06 and now you know if it scratched the itch.

Drive a GS and see if it fits your needs/wants better. The wide body is what makes these cars IMO. I’d rather have a GS than a base stingray with the LT4.

The other thing is remember you can always sell the Z06 if you don’t love it. Just make sure you are getting a good enough deal that you don’t lose any/much money in the event you do need to sell, but you should be doing that regardless .

Was the car you drove an A8 or an M7? The M7 is a little more tiring driving around town but you can choose your gear easier and that helps tame the car. You can easily drive around town in 4th and 5th gear (5th gear works great for speeds in the 30 mph range and 6th gear isn't all that bad from 35 mph on up. That helps reduce the effects of the Z's prodigious low end instant torque reaction and makes the car more driveable. The A8 can be a problem due to downshifts unless you are driving in manual mode.

I think you meant the base Stingray with the LT1. The Z06 has the LT4.

Sold my 16 Z51 and bought a 19 Z06 back in December of 19. I have some regrets in life, this was NOT one of them.

Nope, thats what I mean’t. Discussing the appearance of the Z06 vs the engine. If my option was a GS or a base stingray with an LT4, I would take the GS because in that scenario I value the looks of the GS more than than having the LT4. Ultimately trying to get at the point that maybe OP doesn’t care about the LT4 but does like the looks of the Z06, so a GS would be a better fit.

Why not test drive a GS and compare?
