Kalahari top on LRG convertible I am considering to buy.
Curious about one thing.
Does this light colored top need a Scotch Guard type of treatment for easy cleaning and do they get dirty quickly and If they do is the material easy to clean?
Kalahari color doesn't absorb the heat as much as black. I still suggest a protectant every 3 or 4 years. Reading information states that the threads sewing pieces together can dry out, rot, from the elements. I use RaggTopp spray protectant. Sunlight is tough on fabric.
I didn't have any issues with my c6 grey top, they clean up pretty easy, put a protectant on it as mentioned, mine was parked inside when not in use, I was the 3rd owner, it still looked new
Buy the RaggTopp kit, cleaner and protectant. Spray the cleaner on a wet top and brush it with a soft bristle brush, like boars hair. Thoroughly rinse and let dry for 24 hours before spraying the protectant.
I've used this product on Light Oak top (2000) and Gray top (2010 & 2019), I have not seen any change in either color.
Agree completely with advice from duckvett above. I had a C5 with oak top that was 13 years old when I sold it with top that looked like new. Ragg Top is recommended by the top supplier to GM. Can't go wrong with that. Wash frequently but I'd say protectant application only needed once a year unless the top is exposed to direct sunlight a lot. I have found Griot's product also works very well.

I've ordered both cleaner and protectant. They will be delivered tomorrow.
I have owned Corvette convertibles for 45 years, including my C7 which has the Kalahari top. I have never used anything on any of my tops other than mild soap and water and a soft brush. GM doesn't recommend that you do, either. I know lots of folks swear by putting chemicals and protectants on their tops. Your car, your choice - but I wouldn't do it, and I don't. And the top on every car I owned looked as good on the last day as it did on the first.

That's a different yet effective approach it seems. I think this reminds me the saying of "there's more than one way to skin a cat" even though I love NOT to skin a cat and leave the poor things alone!
Thank you for your input.
My Kalahari top currently looks spotless. Original owner seems took care of the car very well. Also I am not planning to drive this car on stormy days over the roads with mud and melted snow etc. Since I live in CA this will be a good weather toy car to drive around to close by destinations to club events, sightseeing, meeting few friends etc.
I just wanted to know in case if these light colored tops need some sort of treatment or not. Again, thank you for your advice!
