Default Door question

What is the piece on both doors that looks like a speaker grill or some sort of sensor? Shown in the upper left of the attached pic. Thanks

Thanks

I think its a mic for noise cancellation but I could be wrong.

Those are the noise cancellation microphone for the voice control and hands free phone system. Also noise cancellation for OnStar. These allow the system to filter out background noise during calls etc. They are located in the upper corner of each door panel. The little sensors located in the vent grills on the trim up by the inside mirror are the infrared sensors for motion detector portion of the enhanced security system on 2LT & 3LT cars. If hard-wiring a radar detector at the mirror, do not tap their wires, as problems will occur with the security system.

The microphones are part of the active noise-cancellation circuitry. Here is the description of the sub-system:

If our 2LT has noise-cancelling, I'd hate to drive one without it.

Our factory sound system sounds great when standing still with engine idling, not very good at 40 mph, and anything above 70 mph the system is just noise.
Stock PSS and AS4 tires.

Thanks for all the great info in this thread. I did not know what was behind the grill either.
