We live near the mountains and so nothing but rural country roads, that being said I rely heavily on Navigation when going on drives or seeking an address.
What is your opinion of the On Star Navigation system (Non-Embedded) ? What is the price?

Totally your choice in what to do. You have to be happy with the options/standard equipment that is on any car that you are looking to buy. I have a 2014 and quite honestly it is a very good car even though it may not have all the bells and whistles that newer models may have. Plus it has been a very reliable car in the 4.5 years I have owned it.
If you have found a really nice 2014, it checks out after an inspection and the price is right, might want to scoop it up before someone else does. If you rely on navigation a lot, just buy a good Garmin with lifetime maps and use it when in the car. Sure it is not like having a GPS installed on the car, but it works well and no recurring subscription costs.
I updated my '14 radio to a '17 model. I can use Nav, waze, google maps, messages and all the good stuff the '14 model didn't get. I even installed a front camera. If you have a shot at a '14, I can say nothing but go for it. The car has been reliable. T-Stat died 3 months ago but that's not a horrible thing to have happen.
I lost OnStar 2 months ago and I don't miss it a bit.
Google navigation and waze navigation are better. You got a phone? Then you have access to countless navigation apps that are free. Find the best in your area.

Instead of spending a few hundred on a gps I'd just buy the android auto/car play module and use your phone to get waze on the screen.
I do concede that this doesn't include the functionality to use the steering wheel controls when using phone projection and that is extra but it can be added on later if you decide you need it.
You also have the option to find the 2 components from a car being parted out and have them program them for you cheaper but for the ease I'll end up just paying them for the kit.
