Read some good reviews with automotive touchup paint, but that’s not the case for me lol
Longs story short, items took almost three weeks to arrive and when I got it they messed up and the base coat was off. Tried to get a refund and they would only refund me the base coat and not the primer or clear since it’s my fault for trusting them.
Anyway, just make sure u test before going to town like me lol or better yet go with another company that can get the right paint mixed the first time.
Its going to be near impossible to get an exact match. Your current paint has deteriated with age. If your that picky maybe you should do an entire repaint and have the painter to save you a sample. Just my.02 cents
Check to see if your body shop has the device mine does. Looks like a laptop. They place it on your car and it reads your paints deterioration and blends the new paint to match it. Pretty cool. Then just get that section painted.
I had the same experience with Dr Color Chip, which is highly recommended. I ordered a 1/2 oz bottle of Toyota Silver Sky Metallic ($35) for my Tacoma and it wasn't even close to a match. Ended using my GM Blade Silver touchup and it was MUCH Closer match.
And truck was less than a year old so can't blame paint / color deterioration. I will never use Dr Color Chip again.
I got a bottle of this Hypersonic Gray Metallic and it's a perfect match for my C8.
That's awful and more of a mismatch than simply aging of your original. That said, I've gotten almost as bad from GM "matching" their own paint. I'd suggest a competent paint shop. Btw, I've had good luck with Color Rite products. All the best.
Yikes! Did you order your paint code from the build sheet? I was able to order the same arctic white as noted by the paint code, and didn't realize there are a few choices for it. Rattle can, paint bottle with brush and pen were all an exact match.

I did, I even sent them a pic of my build sheet that showed the actual paint code along with the vid. They offered a refund after accepting the fact that they messed up the actual color.
I’m over it, took my car to a reputable body shop/paint, going to cost a lot more now tho lol
I went through the same touch up ordeal and ordered from gm, colorchip, automotive etc. Of the online vendors, automotive touchup was the best match albeit slow processing (4weeks).
That being said, I could not settle for almost perfect paint colors - I went to a local automotive paint shop store and they took about 3-4 color matches to get it right. This was a bumper.
In short, online stores will get close to your color but if you truly want a color match, look for automotive paint stores and be ready to try many times.
So what alot of folks fail to realize is just because your car is lets say... torch red, doesn't mean its the same batch of red from your neighbors torch red car. Most paints have alternates. GM is notorious for this but all OE's do it. Take for example Night Race Blue (which is also GM's Berlin Blue). It has 16 different alternates and their all wildly different. When your car comes into the body shop the technician/painter has to do a few things, they have to pull the alternates for your vehicle, find the closest match, mix for said match, do a spray out card, match the spray out card, and then adjust it accordingly if it doesn't match. Theirs lots of reasons for this, OE's can be pulling from several paint suppliers at once and its all which batch gets loaded into the gun on that particular day. Now lets talk metallic like what you pictured above. Your gun pressure, the temperature, the nozzle size... all that can affect the way the flake lays down... Painting and matching paint are both art forms. Company like automotive touchup paint are for exactly that, a good enough solution to get you in the ball park. It will never be an exact match. You can't really fault them for that. If you want a perfect match a reputable painter is the only way.
I agree with what u said, I wasn’t looking for an exact match, was gonna be happy with close enough. But that’s not close enuff to me…and like I said before, automotive touch up paint said they are sorry for mixing up the batch, even they know that that’s not acceptable.
I used Dr Colorchip on the driver's door of my Watkins Glen Gray Z06. I got a good size chip on the door during my road trip back from purchasing it 800 miles from home. The touchup paint match was dead on. To this day, I have no idea where the chip was. Thankfully, I have PPF on the entire front end of the car....so no chips there.
