I purchased a 2017 GS and found out there is a crack in the rear rim, The dealer wants to repair the crack. My question is, will the repair work for the long run. Car is still under warranty.
Thanks Chuck

Probably not, ask for a new wheel but keep in mind the OEM wheels are prone to cracking. Some get away with the OEM wheels but forged are the way to go.
That's funny how a Chevy dealer will want to replace a tire with a nail in it (VS repair) but not a rim with a crack in it. That's not very consistent is it?
Fact, Bad wheels... Fact, GM providers its customers a product with bad wheels...Fact, They GM are not gonna help you with that bad product . Fact, You gotta buy aftermarket non GM wheels!.. Fact, GM is not in the least bit embarrassed. 😏 Welcome to General Motors Management.
I just went through this a month ago. Recycled the OEM wheels as they are pure crap by design and I couldn't bring myself to sell them to anyone else. Paid $2K for OEM flow forged ZR1 wheels. Couldn't find any others I liked for the price. I won't track it, so block forged seemed too costly ($5K +/-).

Sadly, you'll likely run into the same issue with another set of cast aluminum OEM wheels. The only forged wheels available for GM were on the narrowbody cars.
Both aerolarri and vivid racing monoblock forged wheels are in the $2k range. There's a whole thread about aerolarri wheels in the C8 section and it grows daily with pics. They also make C7 wide body sizes. You do NOT have to spend $5k to get a wheel that will out perform stock Z06 GS AND ZR1 wheels..

My Apex forged wheels are $3,200 - $3,300 MSRP, but $2,900 under group buy. Lotta options to save a little.

The Vivid Racing VR Forged wheels are currently $2,960 (per set) in Z06 / GS sizes. I have a set that I just had new tires mounted on today. The cosmetic quality is fantastic. We'll see how they hold up.

Nope. It will re-crack worse than ever at the first significant impact. Ask me how I know. Both rear Z06 wheels were cracked at 23k miles when I pulled the rims for tire replacement. Within 2 or 3 weeks later, the LR tire started a slow air leak. After pulling the wheel off the car, found that it was the crack leaking. Crack grew enough toward the barrel to start leaking. Had a professional TIG weld repair done by a shop that does nothing but wheel repair and powder coating. Then two weeks later, ran over a 2x4 piece of lumber in the dark at freeway speed and that TIG weld cracked instantly and was losing air at a psi per couple or three miles. Got it TIG welded again just as a temp fix until I could get replacements. Fact is that the TIG weld is weaker than the original cast aluminum material. Wheel on left after the second TIG weld. The right is the other cracked wheel rim not yet leaking air on a continuous basis.
Here is my car with a new set of flow formed Forgeline F01s in anthracite from CW4L. They are actually less expensive than a set of GM OEM wheels and better made.

Yes. I have the same. Mine are satin silver. Only difference. Have 70K on them and have run over a lot o potholes. Still like new. Paid $2,200 for them. Got them through Discount Tire because they warranty them for as long as I own the car. Cosmetic was only one year. Any crack, I bring it back. Free replacement. Fortunately they are golden.
Welding a Crack on a POS to start with
I wouldn't take my time in life, with even a free POS wheel remounted and balanced with a Cherry on top 🖕
Your only true solution is get out of the Puppy **** wheel and move on.
If you have the cake and wanna eat it to? Gotta go Forged with: Merry Frgn.Christmas. Thanks GM Got better performance and no worries
Your #1 in wheels 🖕

yeah for sure! i wouldnt even think they would take the time to just to repair a rim like that at a dealer under warranty, i would of just thought they would get the rim swap tps, tire, etc,, and customer back to driving.
i mean if they want to repair it in the meantime while they get a rim thats fine too, because not sure if they are getting harder to get at least new ones.

There are a thousand posts here regarding C7 wide body wheels cracking, you have 2 options, replace the OEM wheel & wait for the next one to crack or invest in a set of aftermarket forged wheels
Welding is not the answer. I rode with a friend in his C7 GS from California to Nova Scotia and back. We had a cracked wheel in Nova Scotia, had it welded "That's one big F'n wheel", but a few days later it started to leak again, By the time we got to major city for repairs there were 3 more cracks in the wheel which were welded so we could get to the US to buy a new wheel.

+1
My welded wheel last about 2 weeks before it developed a new crack in a different position.
