Just thinking about buying a Range device and the price on Amazon is about $40.00 less than buying from Range. My concern is what firmware the Amazon one is running.
Anyone think spending the extra $40.00 (plus shipping) worth buying directly from Range? I did send an email asking the Amazon vendor what the current firmware version is.
I’m not sure I would trust something like that from Amazon unless it was sold by a known company. Lots of knockoffs these days and Amazon has almost turned into eBay with all the fakes.
not seeing a $40 difference, but Range themselves are selling on their Amazon storefront for cheaper than their own storefront by like $25?
No reason to fear that, especially if it's prime. Returns are mostly no questions asked.
Range is selling refurb units (I'm reading this as returned units, not failed units) for a pretty massive discount on their own storefront though. If I have decided on getting a dongle to stay out of v4 mode, I'd go this route for sure.
IIRC, several years ago someone had a problem with their new Range they had bought from an aftermarket supplier. Range said the unit was genuine but they wouldn't warranty units purchased from "different" suppliers.
And there's the firmware question...
Are there any risks to running one of these? Been thinking about getting one for my ‘15 zo6. I like the idea of not having it go to v4 but don’t know much about them
Cannot imagine there has been much for firmware updates for years? I bought mine from Summit Racing in 2019 for my week old 2019 and has had no issues, doesn't drain the battery ect. Only pulled it out twice for my two free oil changes and truthfully would not run without it as I bought a Vette wanting to experience a V8 100% of the time.
Amazon's price is $196.00 for me. Easy Returns if needed
Range price is $230.00 - I think shipping is free.
I did see the refurb $165.00. But only 90 day warranty. They think a lot of them until the warranty.
I think I'll go the middle road and use Amazon. Can always return if needed.
Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to respond.

I remember that too. I bought mine from Range direct because I wanted the warranty to be a no question issue.
I bought my Range from Amazon a couple of years ago. Out of curiousity, I called Range and they told me that the version I had was their most up to date at the time. I would not be afraid to buy one from Amazon. After 2 years, I have had no iproblems with it.
Emailed Range support and was told the Amazon vendor I was looking at (Southwest Speed Store) IS an authorized dealer. Firmware also does not seemed to have been updated in a couple of years.
if ZO6LIFE does not respond... Will do Amazon today.
