The setup on the C6 was just fine.
To some extent you had to choose what you wanted to display, but that was done by the driver and not the summer intern at GM.

The only thing I miss from the C6, are the more comfortable seats and being able to release the gas access door mechanically. I do not like using the rivet and leaving the door accessible.

I think they expect us to buy the PDR and use it any time we might might want to know the G.
Sometimes I think the C7 designers never drove the car except on their development tracks.
Honestly, it'd be a fun project to hack the HUD. I would assume it's just an LCD panel of some variety. Wouldn't be terribly difficult to hijack that with an arduino or rpi and a CAN reader and display our own stuff, it's all jelly bean parts.
