Was getting a dead critter smell and tracked it down to the small cubby in the rear corner opposite the battery location. On of the "family" did not survive and was decaying. In addition, there was a ton of bedding / nesting material which looks like it was stolen from under the carpets. To make matters worse, there was about 1/4" of water in the bottom of the cubby and I cannot find where it is coming from. So this weekend, I am looking around to check for any damaged or chewed wiring and checking under all of the carpeting for any signs of leaks. In my last 2016, I had to have the carpets replaced because they stink if they get wet since mold seems to love them. Ugh!
Mice can be a real PITA - hopefully the one you found is all there is. Set those traps and put in some deterrent items to keep them out of the car.
When I had rodent problems I spent the 150 bucks to hire a pest control company. Well worth it for not only good prevention but peace of mind (especially during colder times when cars sit and rodents are looking for warmer winter quarters)

Check if there are drain hoses for your a/c system, sometimes little tiny spiders build nests in them causing them to clog and
back up, soaking the carpets. Happens so much on Toyota/Lexus vehicles that we install special insecticide tips during the PDI
Since they like the cabin air filter material, I'm wondering if it's a good idea to remove it if you're not going to drive the car for a while. And reinstall it when you're ready to put it on the road again. I have a base stingray so it's really easy to remove/install.

may be a good idea. In addition to other stuff. We live in a very rural area. It’s a constant battle.
