Dawn liquid dish soap.
Hose end sprayer.
Soak everything.
Let sit 10 minutes.
Rinse off completely.
Blow dry 80 %.
Maquires hyper dressing on everything.
Let dry.
Looks like new.
This is the method I used. I have about 600 feet of gravel driveway to get to to my house and it got pretty dirty after 5 years. It came out looking as good as new. I showed it to my daughter and she wanted her Audi engine compartment done. she was very happy with how it turned out. I found the Meguires Hyper Dressing at Auto Zone for $22.99 for a quart and mixed it 2 parts water to 1 part dressing. Amazon had it at that time but only had it in gallons.
Blow off dust/dirt with compressed air
Cover alternator and fuse box with Saran Wrap (or gallon size baggie)
Spray entire engine compartment with Simple Green
Let stand 3-5 minutes (but do not let it dry as it will corrode aluminum)
Rinse with garden hose set to 'shower'. Use light water force.
Towel dry entire compartment best as you can
Let dry thoroughly
Remove baggie/saran Wrap from alternator and fuse block
Spray entire engine bay with Griot's Garage Engine Bay Dressing. Let set 5-10 minutes
Wipe off excess spray
Enjoy your clean engine bay. This will last for several months with only minor touch-ups needed.
