I've recently returned to Northern Ca. After 2 1/2 away . I have a 2014 stingray that was in storage the whole time. Presently having issues with failing codes during the registration/ smog check. I purchased in 2017 with under 25k miles on it. Now sitting at nearly 44k. Drove for a bit on day passes from dmv.. of course it failed. Put another 150 miles on it and smog tech then scanned it and 3 codes failed (p0691 ,p0498 ,p0480. Checked with dealership on information and advice . Was told to actually run 2 full tanks of gas thru the the car to flush out the tank of old gas and carbons. So I put on road for another 275 miles on it and upon returning to smog shop for scan prior to final test the check eng light literally popped on as the tech was to begin his scan. So I found a reputable mech. Whom has good history working on these vehicles. After squeezing me in he performed a courtesy digital scan after pretty much confirming the previous code failures and realizing how long the car had been sitting ..prior to
performing a full diagnostic to trace the failures it was decided best to perform a tune up to replace the spark plugs, tailored resistor ignition wire set , air filter and cabin filter . After which time I am to drive another couple of hundred miles to reset the monitor and see if the codes repopulate. If no failing codes after driving the requested amf of mileage I would probably pass the smog test without issue. If codes reappear then to return for full diagnostic to trace the failed codes. I know I if only for the down time of vehicle would need a tuneup. They are saying I can do the fluids later. I'm basically living on the road and have a limited time at my current temp location ,also dealing with 1 day moving passes from dmv. I've put +/- 600 miles on car since the process begin with the check eng light coming on at the end. I've gotten several offers on the car in the last 2 weeks, and really hadn't entertained them seriously til now. Is there anyone out there with similar experiences in the past, or any advice as to the info or procedures iv'e explained. I'm not totally green but also am in no way a mechanic. .... thx
How many of those problems are a result of the car sitting for 2 1/2 years in storage. Was it ever driven during that time, perhaps a family member that took it our every once in awhile.
Unfortunately the car was not driven at all and remained in storage .. for a large portion of the time I was 3,000 mi away on the east coast during the height of Covid . Didn't plan on staying away as long. Car was in prime running condition prior to storing. Always factory services and
maintained. So I no expert but do personally attribute some if not all of these issues to the extensive down time.
My .02 cents. I wouldn’t expect plug wires and plugs to go bad from sitting. Did he look at them and determine they were fouled or something and should be changed? I understand bad gas may cause some issues. How full was your tank? I haven’t looked up the codes.
Kind of a long shot. Depending where you like or how you stored it. Do you think you had rodents? I stored a camper some years ago and they ate part of my wiring harness. I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion but I only state because I have had an issue. Does it noticeably drive different or just the codes?
DTC P0498 is for EVAP Vent Solenoid Valve Control Low Voltage
Either the solenoid has failed or there is a wiring issue. Easy to troubleshoot.
The DTCs for the failed fan control module are a don't care at this point.
None of this has anything to do with spark plugs, tailored resistor ignition wire set , air filter and cabin filter. You were taken big time!
I agree that spark plugs, ignition wires.....aren't the problem. Maybe make sure the plugs aren't fouled but your cabin filter has nothing to do with codes. What the heck. I'd throw in some seriously concentrated fuel injector cleaner and make sure the battery and it's connections are good. It's amazing how gas turns to varnish while sitting for two years. It will foul everything.

Have also found spiders and webs restricting the Evap vent tubes from sitting as well.
