Hi fellow enthusiasts! Time to do a little to the engine bay to dress it up a bit. I have been looking at all the companies that provide or paint parts and overlays.
So many decisions, so many possibilities, gotta love customization.
I am looking at various options for my Grand Sport... I have found a few plenum overlays in waving american flags and carbon fiber look that are appealing.
Do the overlays look tacky and cheap vs the entire plenum?
Anyone have any comparison photos of those?
Thanks for the help in making this decision!
I am currently leaning towards the combo of carbon fiber plenum (first photo) with stainless steel fuel rails (second photo):
Rather than putting the flag on the plenum, the other option is to get a really large waving flag for the hood liner...
Something like this only with Grand Sport or USAF instead of Z06...
I personally think the plenum overlay looks fine. It’s been looking good for years now. Got it from RPI. My airbrushed hood liner is a bit faded, but still holding up.

When I was looking for engine bay dress up items, I went with the replacement plenum piece rather than just an overlay. From the pics, it just looked better to me.
I went replacement only because I found it used in the FS section here. I'm pretty happy too since I do like it more than the overlay pieces. I also opted to paint the fuel rail covers and lower heat extractor vent, as well as having a custom air brushing on my hood liner
Technically both options ore overlays. The stock gray unit is just a piece that covers the actual intake plenum held in place by 4 bolts. Both look fime, but if you go with just the plenum piece and then add the fuel/coils covers I think that looks a little better and a little more thought and individualized.
I just finished mine and I took the plunem off painted it gloss black, added the stainless steel from American Car Craft, left the upper covers stock and removed and painted the lowed covers to match the exterior color. I also added the polished stainless pieces from American Car Craft.

I looked in the past and you had a custom plenum that had an american flag, does RPI still have that? And you had upper fuel rail covers for Grand Sport painted with rally stripes to match the vehicle color... but I can't find those options on your website now.
I have the chrome overlays. Love them! Easy install
As an "overlay" how does that work/apply? Do you leave your existing plenum? Clean it and stick on adhesive parts? Does it sit on top of the existing plenum? rattle?
Its not clear how an overlay actually is installed.

yes, that's exactly what you do. The kit comes with cleaning stuff. Just clean them, then lay the pieces down in the pattern and peel the 3M tape off and press them down. Just take your time. Pretty easy. They've not moved and I put them on about 1.5 yrs ago.

Just installed plenum/rails and air dam this morning, took a little over an hour. '17 GS Black Rose.
Had it done to my prev '14 Crystal Red Z51 until I sold the car..(I put the original parts back on).
Looking to get the underliner airbrushed but haven't had luck in finding an artist in my area (DMV- DC/Northern VA)... any recommended artist out there?
My preference is airbrush vs an overlay....
