2017 M7 GS with 28k miles... Accidentally went from 3rd to 2nd while revving hard playing with no lift shift. Definitely hit 7k rpms and got out of it as soon as I could react.
Babied her home after that, but seemed to be running just fine.
Should i be worried? Guessing there isn't anything I can do but hope it didn't break or weaken anything.
Idk your ability to work on it yourself but pulling the valve cover to inspect the valve train wouldn't be a terrible idea but like he said above if you broke something you'd know. If it was just 7k rpm you're not significantly higher then redline and if it was momentary I'd bet it's fine.

This is from the 2017 Owner's Manual:
Caution
When downshifting, if more than
one gear is skipped, or the engine
is racing when the clutch pedal is
released, the engine, clutch,
driveshaft or transmission could
be damaged.
I think if something went wrong, you would know it. If it gives you peace of mind, either check things yourself or have a dealer/repair shop do a check.
You could develop a problem down the road. I had an over rev condition in an Acura.(past 10K) Seemed fine for several thousand miles, then the engine started to miss at idle.
7K isn't that high. Nothing you can do now. Just drive it.
Keep Rev Match on and it will rev up letting you know you're about to go into too low of a gear, and then you won't do it. Rev Match won't damage your engine. Learned this trick at Spring Mountain from the instructor in class. I haven't shifted into too low of a gear since.

Engine damage from the floated valves after they tore it down. Only stored code was the over rev code. After some push back they covered half the repair. I learned to not miss shifts again.
