I hear you. 2019 GS, M7, vert. I gave up on the memory factor all together and just make it a habit to use the preset buttons as a preflight check before take-off. Onset dementia I suspect. Occasionally the seat moves up at start up and occasionally the seat moves to exit at door opening, but for the most part the memory for those two functions is sporadic. The preset buttons never fail and I'm OK with using those. I call it the path of least resistance. Enjoy that new vert!

If you run your seat all the way back, there's a travel limit sensor on the "wall" behind the seat and under the carpet. "All the way back" can put pressure on the sensor pad and cause goofy **** to happen.
Also make sure you don't have both fobs nearby. The car doesn't seem to differentiate signal strength between two fobs (or if it does, it doesn't do it well). If the car is parked near the door from the house to the garage and if one fob is hanging by the door from the house to the garage and the other fob is in your pocket, the car gets signals from both and gets confused.
If the recognized fob number changes, there will be a DIC message telling you what driver number is recognized. It is typically the first fob that gets close to the car or enters - usually when your wife gets in the car first with her fob.
Fob batteries tend to last about 3 years even if a fob is not used with the car.

Good place to start would be the batteries as RonC7 suggested. I do not know if my memory functions work as I do not have them programmed. I’m the only one that drives the car so I just keep it in one position .

Same Here good Luck! I’m the only one that drives the car so I just keep it in one position .
Maybe look into having the Seat Memory Module reprogrammed. It’s mounted under the driver’s seat. My dealer reprogrammed mine to try to fix a memory recall issue where my driver side mirror wound tilt down and continue to drive. They never could get it resolved. I tried replacing the module and have it programmed, but that made things worse.
For the longest time I never used the memory feature in the '16 but after doing it in the C8 for a couple of months I decided to set it up. Could NOT get it to work, then today it finally dawned on me to check the vehicle settings. Low and behold I didn't have them enabled. Felt like an idiot 😆
