i’m having the occasional issue where my key fob will not unlock the car without hitting the unlock button. just having it in my pocket will not automatically unlock the door. only happens occasionally but it has me wondering if something may be going bad. i thought maybe it was a failing battery so i changed it but the old battery when i tested it, is still showing 3volts. but the real purpose of my post is that when i cracked the fob open to change the battery a piece literally fell out of the fob and landed on the floor. it’s the piece that is the button, when pressed, allows you to pull the key out of the fob. does anybody know how to reinstall that piece? i had to open my other fob to see how it goes together, found out there is tiny little spring involved. i reinstalled button piece with the spring but with the spring installed i cannot snap the two half’s back together. if i remove the spring i can snap the two halves back together but the button will not work. i’ve had to tape the key into the fob. anybody familiar with this fob button and how to properly install it? getting two more fobs is a last resort and fobs loaded with duct tape are rather tacky. any info is greatly appreciated. btw, my car is a 2014 premiere edition.

Reason: more info
Couple weeks ago I'm sitting in my Lazy Boy recliner changing my fob battery. Uh oh, where's the little plastic piece and the spring. Can't believe I actually found them. So I set them on the end table. Put the battery in and now the spring is gone again. It rolled off the table and I found it again. Next time it will be over the kitchen table.
i tried this. if i don’t include the spring, i can snap the two halves together. as soon as i include the spring, the two halves will not snap back together. i’m afraid to use the pressure needed to get the two halves back together as there is a good chance i would break one or both halves of the fob. i put the spring in the same as the video shows. there really is only one correct way to install it. at this point, i have no idea what i’m doing wrong.😟

Post a couple pictures. You took it apart so it should go back together easily.
I replaced the battery in my fog with a cheap off-brand battery. It failed. And, the other battery in the pack also failed. Even though the battery voltage tested OK, it did not work. I then purchased a brand battery at a local retailer. Problem solved. Are all cheap off-brand batteries defective? I have no idea but wanted to alert forum members of my experience.

Curious if you ever got a fob low battery power warning display on your dash?
Just went trough some FOB problems. I changed the battery in July. Past week I have had problems locking unlocking & poping hatch. And several times while driving or trying to start the car I get no FOB detected.
Opened it up & had to bend the contacts up to make better contact with the battery.
I HIGHLY recommend the you do NOT use a screwdriver, knife blade or anything else but what the guy did in the video. I pretty much guarantee that you'll slip and the case will get a gouge and look like crap.
Do what you think is best but you can't go back and fix a gouge.
Just a word to the wise
Also, if you are clumsy, get a quart ziplock bag and make the separation inside of the bag. That spring can reach ICBM lengths in travel and the search will be quite frustrating.

Just changed my fob battery I had to get really close for the proximity lock to recognize the fob. I would try to unlock the door and it wouldn't unlock until I moved closer. New battery took care of it. I got 3 1/2 years out of the battery. I never use the fob itself. My doors open from proximity and auto lock. I had a similar issue with a cheap battery. I had to open and close the fob several times no issues that I could remember.
