I am assuming that you verified it's not a battery issue. If the passenger side door opens but the driver side door does not, then it's not the battery.
If it does not open from outside or inside, then it's not a switch issue.
There is always the pull the battery terminals off and re- install and let everything reset and see where that goes.
Other than that, you will need to pull the door panel off ( plenty of videos on YouTube on that) and see if there is voltage going to the harness when the button is pressed.
Then if all that checks out, you will need to replace the door latch assembly. Not a crazy job. If you can manage to pull the door panel off, the latch assembly is easy.
Once replaced, test and re-assemble everything in reverse.

The same thing happened to me last week. Suddenly the driver door would not unlock with the key fob, but the passenger door unlocked easily. I changed the battery in the key fob and both doors unlock easily now. The battery change solved the problem.

That is really weird, one door lock worked but not the other.

^^ The fob sensor in the car may not be symmetrical to the doors.

If you have access to a scanner equivalent to the GM MDI2 the dealerships use to diagnose cars you will more than likely find a code showing the area to look and a diagnostic procedure to narrow the problem down. OBD2 scanners won't be able to read the codes so don't bother with one of them. Since the inner and outer switches are connected in a parallel circuit if both of them are not working the problem is more than likely in one of the other parts of the circuit including the BCM, Keyless Entry Module or the Driver's side door latch. I would look at the latch first since that is an electromechanical device with a higher failure rate than the pure electronic components in the circuit.

i took the car to carmax, after trouble shooting they agreed with me that the electromechanical switch
was defective. so they are going to replace the electromechanical door switch and the pad. as soon as parts arrive.
thanks again for all the helpful information. coevette forum members are the gratest
