I replaced the air filter in my 2018 Z06 today. After starting it back up, the check engine light came on. I double checked the installation a couple of times and everything looks good. I did disconnect the MAF sensor while performing the replacement. I disconnected the battery in an attempt to reset the check engine light, but it didn't reset. The car runs just fine. I drove it about 20 miles and started/stopped it several times. Everything seems normal other than the check engine light.
Will the light reset itself eventually? Do I need to buy a code reader to reset it? If so, any recommendations? Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

You needed to disconnect the battery before disconnecting the MAF otherwise it will pop a code on startup
If you don't have a code reader , take it to any Advance auto , Auto Zone or O'Reilly they can clear code .... or just buy one off of Amazon....

What am I missing? It sounded like he got the light and then disconnected the battery to reset the code or did I misinterpret?

You need to disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes. If you connect the battery right away you can get the check engine light to come on. The 10 minute wait should fix your problem. I did a new battery install and had that problem. I also did a K&N air filter but didn't have the problem so conditions do vary but if you disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes your check engine light should come off. Otherwise several starts and restarts should make the check engine light come off.

You need to disconnect the battery FIRST , then disconnect the MAF . Install air filter , reconnect MAF and then battery
Op said he only disconnected battery after in an effort to clear code which if it's a true MAF code it WILL NOT clear without a scanner or x amount of starts without a fault

If u got a CEL changing the battery , something else is going on ..... as changing the battery should not set a error code ...
Disconnecting the battery for a MAF code will not clear it , see my comment above

I took my car to the Auto Store and they cleared the code. It's been fine since!
Thank everyone for the help!

Did they tell you what code(s) were present before clearing them? You should rattle them off cuz that helps fellow owners identify, diagnosis, and, fix their issues. It also wins you karma points.

The code was P2227, which is a code consistent with a problem in the air flow sensor near the air filter. The guy who cleared the code said it was common with air filter changes when the sensor was unplugged. I'll do it in a wiser way next time!
Everything has been fine since the code reset.

Ya made your MAF mad. It was an easy fix and you're on the road without a SES glowing on your dash.
