Shortly we’ll have folks here telling you not to listen to me because Tadge said it was important at one point (stops you from taking flight or something). I literally can’t have it on my car because my 19 Z has the factory undertray under the splitter. Must remove the stupid center airdam to install the undertray. I’ve been between 150 and as high as 184mph in my car on several occasions. I can assure I have never taken flight. Damn thing is glued to the ground with or without that 15cents worth of plastic going for $90

It does help with aerodynamics, but I would bet you’ll be fine without it.

GM didn't opt to put it on to clear extras from the warehouse. Where did you try to order from? Check vendors here at the Forum... worked for me.

Gas mileage Sir, every 1/10th of mpg matters with epa standards.

LOL, Think I'll take mine off this weekend now. Always wondered what those dam things were for.

The air dam helps cool the engine.

Not picking an argument, but what about every GS, Z06 and ZR1 with stage 2 and up splitters that have the undertray? My 16 Z51 came from the factory without the middle air dam. Wouldn’t any of those cars need the same cooling?

The ZO6 does have overheating issues on the track

I also have a 2016 Z51 and I don’t have a middle air dam. Upon reading this thread I wasn’t sure if my car came with one and I lost it (torn off) someplace years ago.

No worries, I ordered and picked mine up brand new. No center dam on the Z51 option

Did you notice any difference once it was installed?

Not on the C7. The car is not a bottom breather. The C4 and C5 are good examples of that.

It's purely for aero performance.
