ive had 3 rear wheels crack ...2 were on original grand sport and 1 was on a set of 4 I bought of a 19 GS....I finally just ordered a set of new wheels from KRNC. Do i just have bad luck or has this been a problem?
It appears it is just cast wheels that are the issue. Not enough structural support in the manufacturing to provide support for the wide width. I have been running with forged wheels for miles and miles. Many potholes and the wheels are fine. I don't have the monoblock because the forged wheels are guaranteed for as long as I own the car. The Forgline flowformed wheels I have are stellar.
………..….Do i just have bad luck or has this been a problem?
Nope!! Not bad luck. Just crappy GM wide wheels. My Z06 rears cracked within 24k miles of smooth pavement driving. Too many owners have reported numerous times over numerous years bent or cracked inner rim factory wheels. The only solution is a set of better made aftermarket wheels. GM has denied that there is an issue yet they did beef up the C8 wheels and many of those now advertised as “forged”!! But no problem with C7 wheels.
I cracked both rear wheels on my '19 GS daily driver. The OEM wheels cracked after about 24 months and 24,000 miles. I bought a set of aftermarket rotary forged wheels. They cracked after about ten months and 10,000 miles. After that, I purchased a set of fully forged wheels.
An "Advance search" across the C7 sections here will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know, and much more than you want to know about the crappola GM OEM wide-body wheels. As you've already learned the hard-way, the only answer is a set of quality, after-market fully-forged replacements. All the best!
Gone 4 1/2 years with no problem. Keep proper inflation and avoid pot holes. My insurance company told me that replacements are covered under road hazard (wink wink). Having stiff sided run flats probably does not help.
