My new/used c7 was delivered (2015) with 19” and 20” chrome wheels. The wheels on the car look great however there is some curb rash and some of the chrome is peeling off. This car will be used as my spring summer and fall daily driver. I have two thoughts about the replacement of the wheels. The first being, chrome wheels (19” and 20”) as listed on EBay. These go for $1300 for the set, any experience with the quality and durability of these chrome wheels? Not sure whether I want to polish the chrome on basically a daily driver? The other alternative is purchasing a silver (painted) aftermarket set of wheels which would probably be more money but less maintenance? I don’t want to go with black wheels on my Shark Gray car as I think the silver contrasting wheels with the dark body sets off the car nicely. Thoughts and or pictures if you have a good alternative? I don’t want to go overboard $$ on the wheel package but I also don’t want to have any regrets, this is a one time purchase. Thanks for your input.
You need to clarify if you have a Stingray or wide body. If you spend some time reading through the threads, wide body wheels have a high risk of cracking.....so forged is recommended.
On my Z51 I have Cray Spiders as my second set which are rotary forged and are great.

Sorry you're right I should have noted my car is a Stingray with the [Q7E} Wheels, Chrome Aluminum.
As a dealer tech for 20+ years I have had a lot of experience with chrome wheels. Horrible experience w/ the chome peeling right where the tire bead should be sealing. SO the tire had a permanent slow leak. We took the tire off, wirewheeled the flaking chrome as best we could and reinstalled the tire w/ a black goey bead sealer compound. That usually worked for 1-2 years. So my recommendation is switch out of the chrome wheels. I won't have them on any of our cars.

OTOH, mounting wide tires on painted wheels is a serious issue, and calls for going somewhere they DO wide tires. Lots of neat wheels out there, but if you're going new ones, might as well go forged. You will appreciate the lightness, the better ride, AND you can get them "polished" so they give you that chrome look.

I agree with your logic and also the downside of keeping the chrome polished. I'm looking for an alternative and have until March (winter storage presently) to find a set probably painted silver. Prices are all over the place,I won't be spending 3K per wheel or more. I'd like to keep it under 2K for the set. Looking for 19" * 8.5" and 20" * 10. I like the looks of the staggered setup which the car was sold with. I believe the z51 wheels had the same dimensions. Also have to get the backspace right. Thanks for your input.
Some chrome is better than others, like the OEM crappola. It's all in the quality of the prep and plating. I had Cragars on a vintage car for over 15 years without a problem. Granted that was a long time ago. All the best.
My Forgeline VX1 in Dark Transparent Smoke finish are for sale. They were on my 2019 Grand Sport and would look fabulous on your car. See for sale section for details.
I agree those wheels would look great on my car but your car was a Grand Sport and mine is a Stingray so I believe the fitment wouldn’t work. Your price is also a concern. Love those wheels.
Thanks. I have seen this fitment on a Stingray and it looks good, but I understand it may be a bolder look than some prefer. I can work on price a bit depending on where shipping takes me, but the original price on these rims alone is about $2100 each for the fronts and $2500 each for the rears, not even considering the tires. I also understand that there are much cheaper options out there. Good luck with your search!👍
While looking you may want to consider going to 18-19 wheels. Most of the wheel places have you provide make, model, and year, so plug 2014 for the year. Most I have looked at pop up 18/19 wheels in the exact same width and offset as the 19/20s. (Some brands/models only make the 19/20 though). Then you up the tire ratio from say 35 to 40 when you drop the diameter. That gives you very close to the same OD so there is a little more tire and a little less wheel which gives a slightly sifter ride. Of course then you need tires. I did this right after I got my 19 Stingray. To let you know, Tire Rack did a great job of mounting tires and pressure sensors and balancing and shipping to me. Absolutely perfect. I mounted them on the car and went for a 20 min drive. Only when I got back did I realize that I never saw anything from the tire pressure system. It learned the new setup on it's own.
