Default 2019 C7 Range device

Is a Range device needed for a late model C7. How many have a high mileage late model C7 without the device or problems.

I installed the Range device right after I bought my 2019 GS A8 in October of 2018. No 4 banger mode. I have had the triple flush done and have had no transmission issues yet at 30,000 miles.

You only need it for an A8. I installed mine when I bought it and then drove 850 miles straight back to NY. It was flawless.

My 2019 at point of purchase in Traverse City, MI.

I used a Range device on my 2019 GS (now with 45K miles) for about 6 months last year then sold it. I noticed an approx 2 mpg drop with the Range device installed. Given the unlikely damage to my valves from switching into/out of 4-cylionder mode, combined with the drop in mpg, I removed the Range device and sold it. I decided to trust the GM engineers. Your choice as to the use of a Range device. If it gives you peace-of-mind, then buy one. Good luck.

I have an aftermarket device to keep it in V8 mode and I love it. It works perfect. I couldn't stand it going in and out of V8 mode. I didn't purchase the C7 for it's gas mileage. Driving it for a beer,,,,, YES.

I got mine from Amazon for $90 and it has worked very well. It has more stars than the Range device so I figured I would try it. Of course, Chinese companies have all of their relatives rate it high so the stars may not mean anything.

I also got this one almost a year ago.... The only difference is the cost.

2017 GS A8. I have 55,000 miles now installed Range @ 35,000, no problems. How much damage could I have sustained back then?

Well, I don't have much operational history with my 96k mile 2018, but just before I picked it up, the TT bearings & components were renewed by a GM dealer. Parts cost just under $400 - labor totaled $2860. So, I didn't have to deal with it on my end, but picked up a Range device as a 'preventative'...hopefully, as I plan to put at least another 100k miles on it...

I have had the range device in my 2019 GS since the second week of ownership when I bought it new. My car is a March 2019 built car so luckily has the newest fluid already since they changed to it mid February of 2019. I want full V8 100% of the time.

Soon as I found out how it worked, I sold it for a loss. I don't personally care either way as to the V4 mode. I'm not so petty that I cannot be in V4 mode when it isn't needed just because I own a V8 anymore than me needing to go 150 mph every minute because I own a C7. The problem I have with the range device is I tend to kick it getting in and out. The deal breaker was when I found out how it worked. I don't like ECM foolers and I definitely want all readiness tests run and not have the dongle intercept it so the ECM doesn't go into readiness mode. That is why you have to disconnect it for a few days before emissions testing. I want the ECM to fail it when something is not right so I can fix it ASAP and not wait till the end of the year to find out.

I did try the Diablo programmer to remove the V4 mode and increase throttle sensitivity as a bonus.
