Hello, I am new to the forums and I would greatly appreciate some help.
My 2014 C7 with the automatic 6 speed transmission has had issues ever since I bought the car used. Firstly when shifting from Park to any gear it takes a few seconds for the car to actually engage. Typically with a noticeable jerk. What puzzles me more is the fact that for a few moments when the car is ice cold it will not have this issue and shifts quickly and with no jolt.
Secondly, it has a hard shift from first into second that will give you a fairly large jolt. It is quite annoying and doesn't feel good.
Third is a tiny yet annoying rattle when cruising in V4 mode. Sounds like a ticking in the front or back of the car. If you give it gas or switch it back to v8 mode the sound goes away. I'm fairly certain it's an issue with the torque tube which i plan to rebuild here soon.
Any help with such issues, ideas with what's wrong/ stuff to fix is greatly appreciated. I'm able to work on the car myself as I have a car lift and I have been a mechanic for a couple years now. I know the basics.
I have the same transmission in another GM vehicle that is in your 2014. Mine has acted up like you describe and my remedy was a transmission flush with fluid and filter change. It made a big difference.
V4 mode sets up a weird harmonic in the driveline. Others have described noises while in V4 mode. You can fix the rattle in V4 by not allowing it to go into V4 mode. Install one of the V4 disable modules and be done with it.
The torque tube removal is a big job. My thought is to not remove it unless absolutely necessary.
I drove my 2014 home from the museum. At 30K miles I had the transmission filter and oil changed along with the differential oil. At 60K miles I had it done again. No issues yet.
I have the same tranny but I was going to suggest a fluid change. I can't help you further with that. I WILL HIGHLY SUGGEST you get rid of V4 mode forever. Straight out of a corvette engineers mouth is that it creates bad vibrations through the drivetrain. It's on youtube. Get a range device or get it removed through a tune. Or drive in manual mode 100% of the time. You want to stay out of V4 mode.
You guys must really love those cars to deal with all the problems.
For me it's a love hate relationship!!! I bought this 2019 in Aug and it's been at the dealer 3 times. I've thought about changing to a restomod as a DD without all the electronics.
This is where people go to solve issues. EVERY car has issues. Go to the Toyota forum. These cars are also ran very hard and this also creates issues.
Yes, we do love our cars. I like the blue color.
took off trans pan, replaced gasket and filter, dropped the car down filled it. Put it on a level surface. Brought the trans up to 100°f and pulled the plug on the bottom of the trans until there was only a steady drip coming out of the pan. That's exactly how I did it
This was with the engine running in park? Approximately 6 qt's to fill trans?
That is correct. I just did mine. I was hoping it was a simple fluid issue. You made sure you used the rare super snake oil? Just kidding.
Before you start shoot a parts cannon at it , have a clear adapts and a garage relearn procedure done by someone who knows howbto donit ... usually cures all shifting concerns and maybe that clicking sound ..

I would not remove the torque tube, that is a big job & what you probably hear is the V4 sound resonating through the car, try the range device & see if the noise goes away
2014 Z51 6AT 55k miles, torque tube was destroyed couple years ago. Coupling rubber exploded but GM only supply whole assembly to replace. Kinda make sense to me. Almost $3,000.

The active fuel system uses 4 lifters to turn off while your in 4V. Once you hit the accelerator the 4 lifters that were turned off will come back online and make that ticking sound. The only way to stop the ticking sound is to place the trans in manual mode. This eliminates the AFM system. There is also a USB MODULE that can be purchased to eliminate the AFM from shifting from 4V to 8V. Another option is to remove the AFM system which will require labor and parts and is not a simple solution. Hope this help. Best wishes!
