The recent posts about car max make it sound like they are very good at allowing a return if there is something you are unhappy with. I believe one form member sent back two and was happy with the third
Purchased last September, returned and bought another in November of '22. Had some mechanical issues that were covered after the second purchase. I am happy with them and they will be my first stop for a used car going forward.
As used car purchases go it's about as low risk as it gets. 7 days to return it, 30 days if there's an issue. Good coverage on warranty if you pick that up too.
I didn't buy my Vette from them but every other used car for 10+ years with no issues.

Yep. That is me.
This is the one that stayed after two cars with issues discovered during the 30 day initial purchase. They were returned with absolutely no questions asked. I absolutely love this one.
I highly recommend CarMax for their liberal 30 day return policy, their 90 day bumper to bumper warranty after the purchase, and then the very good warranty through MaxCare.
I have nothing bad to say about this company.

It's 30 days no questions asked with or without issues so long you do not drive it more than 1500 miles during that period.
It's Carvana that offers 7 days.

Bought a 2017 GS from them in September. Before signing the paper work I told them I wanted a large ding on the rear bumper repaired (required paintwork) and they needed to fix a ticking noise I was hearing from the engine, all this at their own cost. They did a great job repairing the ding. Turned out the ticking noise is (supposedly) coming from bad lifter rollers. They are taking care of it and I am supposed to get the car back on Monday. Assuming the ticking noise is fixed when I pick the car up on Monday, I will be satisfied with Carmax even though it took a while to get to the bottom of the ticking noise…
I'm about to buy a Cadillac from them. They bought my last Cadillac at a very fair price. I might sell them my Colorado too if I can get the numbers I'd be happy with. So far, so good. Seems like they are the top customer service operation of all the dealers.
havent purchased, but was involved with selling 2 to them, no issues at all and they stand behind their quotes.
from the positive stories ive read just on this forum alone if you can find what your looking for overall you may pay just a bit more but as stated they stand by their sale with what has been stated.
I just bought a '17 7MT GS with 15k miles from CarMax on Dec 1
Here is my feedback from my purchase/ intro thread;
"I have bought and sold a few times to carmax. The main issue is they are typically above market value by 2-5k or more. In this case I found the avg price range for comps was 61-64k and I bought at 59k. Assuming best trade in condition, the vette would be 57.5k Which matches with Carmax's 2k premium. What is irrefutable is their warranty, which is the primary reason I bought with them. Their road side assistance is pretty good, and I have not yet run into any warranty issues with them. I file a claim and they take care of it, I can even take the car to first party dealer. Buying experience is sort of luke warm. Sales people wont know ANYTHING specific, nor will they care. There will be good and bad sales people anywhere and so you will get that with Carmax. The trick is to find one who is capable, but know there is no haggling, and the sales people cannot do much aside from the company process. Why it matters to find a capable sales person is so they can be an additional advocate for you should you have any issues.
If they can corroborate you are "playing the game" and have run into issues they will be able to make things happen for you. It is best to just do all of your homework and have your paper work ready. Test drive the car you are looking at, CM doesn't care if you want to sit in the lot and mess with the in car settings (I did with my phone and all of the other personal vehicle settings) You can also request a longer than 20min test drive. I usually do because there is a specific route I test drive on. The sales person I used was the same my wife used when she bought her past 2 cars from CM, he has been there a while and so we have good rapport with him. In my case because I had all my ducks in a row, I was in and out in less than 1 hr when I went to purchase."
we bought my wife's Cherokee from Carmax and it was smooth and easy and bordered on pleasant.
Only time i have ever been there, but my wife stated "i will buy all my cars from them in the future"

Is it an issue being $2-5K more when they give you 90 days to find problems and fix it on their dime even if you don't buy MaxCare? If the other sellers do "AS IS" and you have a problem, that's time and parts when you find out. 90 days gives you time to find your favorite mechanic to do a PDI. I'm not worried. I drive it home that day. Yes, the salesperson doesn't know much or do much but who cares? Most of them at other places aren't any better either. Besides, YOU need to do your own homework and IDK what you hope he advocates for you but when I needed my F250 fixed, I didn't bother to call the guy in Chicago. I just got it fixed at the Milwaukee Carmax. I find that process pretty decent for people like my wife who hates to haggle so she can just know up front what she is getting into and decide to proceed or not. They offer $10000 trade in and the car she wants is $50000, she needs to have $40000. Cut and dry. Not sure what you think the salesguy will advocate for since he probably doesn't remember you after you are done.
Why do I need to test drive? I know it works enough to go home. I can get a PDI by a trusted mechanic (which I will do anyways) so as long as it makes it home, life is good. I don't know all the quirks of that model but I am betting the guy I hire to do a PDI will know many of them. We made the appointment in Chicago, drove there, did the paperwork and drove home. Sorted it out later. Besides, we did get the Maxcare warranty so it didn't matter.

This has got to be the strangest way I've seen someone agree with me lol. Everyone is going to have their own way of doing things. By no means is what I do gospel.
