Does pulling the exhaust tone fuse make exhaust louder than setting tone to track mode? If so why ??

In track mode the NPP closes between something like 1000 to 1800 rpms. If you pull the fuse the NPP is open 100% of the time, in any mode, hence louder.

I set them mode to track when I first got mine, but it was not long until I simply pulled the fuse. Now they stay open all the time. Only issue is if you do need to leave early in the morning and you care about your neighbors the stealth mode is no longer available.

I was not aware of fuse changing locations by years.
Everyone talks about fuse #42 for the NPP. Mine was pulled on my 2015 when I bought the car.
I put it back in because I don't need the exhaust loud at highway speeds.

NPP Fuse #41 (2014), #42 (2015 - 2018), #87 (2019).

The fuse is in the same physical location, but fuses have been renumbered over the years. Check the online manuals for exhaust valve 2.

Which transmission do you have? If it is an M7 then in track mode the exhaust is open all the time except for one condition, which is when in 5th gear with the rpm below 1500 the exhaust valves will close which is somewhere between 35 to 40 mph. Set cruise control to a speed just before the valves open and shift to 4th or 6th and the valves will open since they are open all the time in 4th and 6th.

A8s are trickier because the AFM operation will close the valves every time the engine switches to 4-cylinder operation and open them every time the engine is in 8-cylinder operation. The only time AFM doesn't operate is when the transmission is used in manual mode or if sufficient throttle is used to prevent the low load situations that activate AFM.

It gets annoying at times but on the display you can program to have the NPP open in all modes.

No, the only way to have the valves open 100% of the time is to pull the NPP fuse or install a Mild2Wild. Otherwise, regardless of sound management setting, they will close under certain conditions.

Don't waste money on a mild to wild box you have to stick somewhere and cut holes and that crap A better option would to build this unit. Easy to do, inexpensive.. works awesome! Scroll to end and you can see my build..
