I would change out the engine oil and put some kerosene down the spark plug holes and store the engine where you can control the humidity, condensation will be your worst enemy. Don't hydrolock the cylinders with kerosene, leave the plugs out and turn the engine over then reinstall plugs.
We store aircraft turbine engines frequently and the manuals prescribe the procedure for long term.
Usually involves using preservative oil in the fuel and oil system but I dont think you would have to go that far.
We pack the engine with several bags of dessicant (ULINE) and slip a plastic envelope over it and then suck it down with vacuum and seal. We install a humidity indicator and if it gets above a certain point we open and dry out or replace the dessicant and seal it back up.
What ur seeing is a gearbox we did
GSTX that is brilliant and actually fairly easy to diy. I have a couple of plastic box things w/ dissicant in them meant for gun safes. They have 5 little indicators on the outside. When the change colors it is time to plug into an outlet for 12 hrs to dry them out again. This is similar. SnapSafe Rechargeable Gun Safe Dehumidifier - Large (gunmagwarehouse.com)
They make a special solution for storing engines long term. Its called FOG or FOGER.
After changing the oil and completely draining it you spray FOG into the cylinders then turn the engine over by hand a few times.
Some people even FOG the bottom end.
Agreed 👍 change oil , fog it, rotate the assembly a few times reinstall plugs and forget about it till u need it . If an when you need it make sure to use the flood procedure so you can pump up the oil preasure to get lubication going .... just dont try to fog it with a running engine ( ie like you would with a boat )
