So I just left the office to go home, noticed the my screen didn’t turn on. Just black, nothing else. Tried pulling over for a minute turn the car off and on again, it didn’t do anything. As I pull in to my garage this screen pops up. Never seen it before and now its stuck on that screen. Even after the car is shut off, it stays on. Am I royally screwed? Has this happened to anyone else?
Well, after it sat for a couple of hours, I went back and turned it on and its back to normal. But still curious if anyone has had this happen to them.
The HMI modules on these cars tend to be glitchy at times.
Those are the radio modules located in the driver footwell, behind the firewall. Sometimes a little disconnect, then wait 30 seconds and reconnect does the trick.
You may be having an HMI module going out on you. Not cheap if you're out of any warranty that covers electronics.
A car scan might tell you a whole lot more on what happened. There might be some stored codes.
Also check your battery for low cranking power. A weak battery will cause some glitches as well.
This screen is check screen every time you start the car but it happens so quick you don't see it. You got stuck on this screen because the check froze or was not communicating.

Hopefully it was just a one time glitch in the system, but as mentioned the infotainment screen is a problematic area on the car. I have had to replace mine once - cost was around $1300 which also included the bezel around the shifter which cracked when the tech tried to remove it. Thankfully it was covered under an extended warranty.
Wiggle (unplug / replug) all 6 conectors on the the box behind the driver kick panel. There is a screw that will require the removal of the panel under the steering column to get to that screw in the corner. The screen will come back if there is nothing further wrong.
Hopefully this will start to make replacing infotainment more appealing. Warranty included! This is the only version to exist, but a video is coming on my youtube channel for this. This is a 1yr project. I'm more known in C5/6 circles for my KnightDriveTV youtube developed products and I have a full C6 integration screen that released last August. Wireless android auto and carplay, full integration, controls everything it replaces, and has carbon and base level variants.
I had the same thing happen to my 2017 GS while driving several years ago. I just let it run and I eventually noticed a statement something like failed to load." I've never seen an attempt to update again. And I never did figure out what was updating but I assumed it was some type of system update.
