Recently acquired 2017 C7 GS Automatic (Admiral Blue) During automatic driving, noticed a jerkiness in mid to high gears. After research, this is due to the v4/v8 active fuel management system. What a joke that is....
Did further research, and if the car was kept in manual mode, it would stay in v8 mode. Seems like a simple fix. Never driven a manual before.
The upshifting I understand, the downshifting is where I'm struggling. When braking, the car automatically downshifts, is this normal? I don't mind this one bit..
the next thing I'm struggling with. What are the proper methods for downshifting and accelerating? Can 2 or three gears be dropped to make a pull? Gas or no gas, just need some assistance and clarification, please.
Something, is wrong. Do you know if the car has had the Tranny Tripple Flush done? The only way I know mine is going from 4 to 8 or 8 to 4, is when the gauge tells me it did.
As for Paddle Shifting, keep the "R's" up and you will have a seamless upshift.
Down Shifting, it depends on what I am doing. If I am on a mountain road, I am keeping the "R's" up, I just down shift one gear. If I am on the Freeway cruising and want to pass, I just down shift three gears in quick succesion. That seems to be the "Sweet Spot" for me.
If what you feel is like a short run over rumble strips, it is the transmission shutter. That can be fixed with what is known as the Triple Flush. There is a service bulletin on that issue.
Before I bought my 2014 C7, I had a Ferrari V12 with a TH400 transmission. I learned to shift it with the gas pedal. With the A6 in the Vette I had to teach my foot to mind his own business, the tranny is far smarter! Just keep constant right foot or brake as needed and let the tranny do the rest.

I have a 2016 Stingray that shifts back and forth from V4 to V8 with no noticeable inputs. Where you may get some is when you are in V4 and try to accelerate quickly. This is why I posted my experience with the paddles when in V4 and accelerating. I simply downshift before I hit the gas while in V4 mode and there is no jerking or anything else. As mentioned above, if you are getting a stumble or shudder when transitioning you probably need the triple flush. A lot of people using paddles let the transmission do the downshifting for them. The only times when that does not make sense is approaching a sharp curve or hill that the transmission cannot see but you can.

I notice mine when the exhaust gets a bit quieter when settling into cruising speed and AFM closes. I probably notice it more because I drive with NPP valves open. I appreciate linear exhaust tones and AFM kills it.
