Default Z51 fuel

Just purchased a 2016 Z51, question is with 11:5 compression I would think 89 or higher octane should be used? I have read that 87 is ok and the premium octane is not necessary.
In my C2 with 11:1 I always run 91 or higher, whats your opinions? Thanks

I also always use premium gas in my '16 Z51.
I make sure it is TOP TIER gasoline as recommended.
You can go to this website for a list of top tier gasolines: https://www.toptiergas.com/
Your car will run OK on regular gas in a pinch but won't perform at its best.

Happy motoring!

I would not use 87 in your car ever & would use either 91 or 93, whichever is available in your area of the country

Low octane fuel wont blow up your engine on the street but it will give your knock sensor a workout. Why do that?

These are high performance machines. I have always used premium fuel in all three of my Corvettes. Better performance and mpg as well as long life for engines are three reasons.

Premium, of course. Did your car not come with its Owners Manual? Enjoy the car though, in any event!

It’s recommended that premium fuel be used so I would use at a minimum 91 octane.

93 or 91 if you have that instead.
Really you can use 87. The computers will pull anything that might cause damage. However you will get decreased performance & less gas mileage. So why would you?

Only premium in your area should be used. Whats available will depend on your altitude, but use the premium.

91+ octane all day, any day. 87 only in emergency, no choice event.

I fully intended to run a minimum of 91and along with that probably a small amount of 100 avgas. I have been building and drag racing cars since the 70s so yes I understand octane values in Hi Perf engines. The owners manual Avanti is in the car and in the previous owners garage until I can get it shipped from AZ to MO at the end of this month. As I first stated this is my first C7 and was curious of you guys thoughts and how you use your fuels. So now I’ll open this can of worms😁 Mobile 1 or Dexos oil? I am thinking Mobile.
