The autoglass company I selected to replace my windshield explained that OEM glass is on backorder with a 10 week ETA. The autoglass person explained that they have a glass provider with a replacement in stock. The info you provided now gives me knowledge to ask the autoglass company right questions. Thanks

of course they want to do it in house!! from this post, i'm now aware that i'd have to ask safelite, specifically for pilkington glass!!

The autogalss company I selected installs OEM glass as the first order of preference which was my reason for selecting them. In addition, they have a good reputation for replacing glass on high-end cars. They were not trying to discourage me from using OEM glass.

to me, oem isn't the same as an oe replacement!!.........close to a degree & why you've heard folks mention, not quite perfect fit, with oem glass.

my last glass repair thru usaa/safelite, i specified mercedes glass, fit perfect, rain sense worked as before replacement!!

Had the new glass installed at Safelite. They did an amazing job! The techs were excellent. It looks perfect and the HUD is no different than before. $707.00 out the door.

I have been told if you car is LT2 and above to make sure to get correct glass, or the HUD may be blurred

You see the HUD under the "Pilkington" trademark in the picture above , that means he got the correct glass , the difference is in the plastic interlayer for a HUD windshield

Not excessive at all, depending on where you live and how many miles you log. Nothing wrong with the glass. LOTS of sand and gravel on the roads here in CO. Windshield pitting is constant and cracks are common.
