2014 Z51 Chrome Wheel Pitting
My 19/20" factory chrome wheels appear to be pitting now. They did not show this last year after I bought the car. See pics. Has anyone seen this? Is it a matter of 10-year-old wheels? Could a cleaning product have done that. How about a polish to remove the pitting? Any ideas welcome.

Chrome is by far my favorite finish, but it is really high maintenance. Your inner barrels appear to be fairly dirty. Any accumulated brake dust, dirt or grime will inevitably begin to pit and damage the chrome finish. After enough time the chrome layer will begin to separate and flake off. I don't think much can be done to 'cure' what has already begun happening. But a super good deep cleaning and regular(maybe daily) wipe down may help with future spread. Once you see it on the surface, the damage has already began to happen on the inside.

You can try to polish out the spots, but if I had to guess, that is going to be a tough job.

Had chrome 20's on our previous Regal GS. The brembo pads made a mess of the chrome rims. Lots of washing needed before they pit.

Thanks for the advice. I have a pending order on Amazon to buy some smaller brushes, cleaner and polish. I will work on this over next two week. It's not a daily driver; we do one-to-5-day rallies, some at distance from home.

Wheels are okay! I used the Adam's wheel cleaner, and it took off a lot of the marks, so they were likely "water stains", but there were still marks that you could feel with a fingernail. The 3D Polish did the rest. Some came right off but some required some effort with polisher. After doing one wheel a spoke at a time, I did the rest of wheels all at once in three steps. Polish on, rub with polisher and then wipe clean. I move the car about 3' to rotate wheels and found a few patches that needed more work. There remain a few tiny "pits" that protrude and a few tiny stone scratches. I will not worry about that for the moment but with some work, both can be resolved. Thanks for all your input. See "after" pics.
