I dropped my C7 stingray off at the Chevrolet dealer. As I expected, differential is bad. They are asking 6700 plus tax for a new differential and install…..
I live in the Raleigh area of NC.
Anyone know of some place I could take it for a rebuild instead? Would that be much cheaper, or even worth the risk?

Check with Martin at RPM in Garner. Heck you should bump the gear up to a 3.90, particularly if you have a M7.

Back when we had a C6, several people posted about installing a higher (numerical) ratio dif in their car.
IIRC, it made the car feel a little livelier but actual 0-60 and 1/4 mile times remained unchanged. Without using drag radials, rear tires were quickly converted into smoke.
If it were me, I'd get a used unit from a low mile car getting parted out and install it myself for a few hundred bucks. I'd need to learn the eLSD bleed procedure, never had to deal with that one.
I just got the car back yesterday after much delay in part deliveries. New axles had to be ordered as well. They were heavily worn with lots of play. It was relayed to me the mechanic said he had never seen a differential look like this and a previous owner must have abused it... I got the old differential back and it does look pretty rough. I will be disassembling it soon and may get some photos. What type of abuse to mangle the differential and axles? Doughnuts all day?
I can feel the difference now and in retrospect see all the play / looseness I had between transmission and wheels before.
I requested new upper control arms (84463636 & 84463637) that I had purchased from a gm parts supplier be installed in the process because the old would creak depending on weather conditions. This was done. However, creaking is worse with these. On the invoice, I don't see where an alignment was done. An alignment is mandatory when this type of work is done, no? I will check with them tomorrow to verify what was done. The parts looked genuine to me. I was wondering if there is a "break in" period. This practically new rear end has less than 50 miles probably. But I have my doubts and am usually right...

The creaking more than likely didn't come from the UCAs or the LCAs. Check the stabilizer bar end links.
So I have started noticing some reverse load / decel whine with this new diff. It’s faint, but there. Worse with decel on lower gears. It’s a new differential from GM… Internal setup issue from factory or bad install? Ugg
